pulling an ab muscle?

Options
Is that possible? I think when i was doing some ab work yesterday i pulled something. Its weird though cause it you can feel it popping like its a bone. Im sore but its not excruciating pain. Idk if its my ribs or muscle but its freaking me out lol ...any opinions?

It could be several things. I would suggest seeking the advice of a physiotherapist or sports rehab specialist rather than speculating in an internet forum.

It's defnatly possible, and potentially dangerous. I suggest making an appointment with your doc quickly.

It may be a simple strain, best to get a professional opinion for something like that.

I've pulled abs before. I just let mine heal with rest, lots of water, and some light massage. If you are concerned though I would definitely talk to a dr. or fizio therapist. Good luck! Hope you get well soon!

If you lay down on your back and bend your knees, start moving your body up, like you're doing a crunch and look at the line where your abs start, near your ribs. If you see a ridgeline, you have more than likely separated or pulled the muscle.

Agree with Egger - though personnally I have a tendancy to pop Ibuprofen & give it 48 hours of rest first!

It is definately possible to 'pull' abdominal muscles. They are no different to any other muscle - push too far or just the wrong way and they get damaged like any leg muscle or back muscle. Or in my case currently, bicep!

With Abs, you also have the possibility of hernias - doesn't really sound like one but, this is the internet and I'm not a doctor - nor do I play one in a popular TV series.

So, real advice - seek qualified medical advice. Personal (unqualified) advice rest for 48 hours taking OTC pain killers as needed, then seek mdical advice if no improvement.

Hope you feel better soon :)
