2 miles!!!

Now this may be no big deal to A LOT of people but for someone who is not a runner by ANY means this was a huge accomplishment.
I went to the gym about half an hour before my Zumba class started to get a little jump start and do some cardio on the treadmill. My plan was to run (ok jog) for a mile then do walk/jog intervals until class started. So I jump on and set the treadmill to 5.0 thinking to myself alright this isn't so bad (the highest I had done before was 4.8 for 1 mile). I popped my headphones in on my Usher Pandora station and started going. The TV in front of my treadmill was playing an episode of Scrubs so that helped out too.
I hit a mile and thought, you know what I'm still feeling pretty good, maybe I'll go another half mile and then walk for a bit. Plus it was still in between commercials so I thought, I'll wait until the commercial break then maybe I'll stop.
Then I hit a 1.5 miles and was about to stop but I knew deep down I could keep going. So I thought to myself if I just hit 1.75 I'll be thrilled.
1.75 came up and I thought if I just did an extra .75 then I was planning what's another quarter of a mile, it will only take me 3 minutes and it will be over. I can do anything for 3 minutes, it's only 180 seconds, it will fly by. So I did it. I cranked the treadmill up to 5.5 for the last tenth of a mile just to get it done faster and I finished 2 miles in 24:12. I've never ever ran more than a mile at one time so to double that in one try was so awesome!
35 lbs ago I would have been dying 5 minutes into that and have had to stop and walk (which there is nothing wrong with) but now I can really do it. All that Zumba is really paying off and helping my endurance and cardio abilities. I got off the treadmill and was on such a high I felt SO awesome going into Zumba! I reached a +1000 calorie burn on a weeknight which I hardly ever do and I feel so amazing and so refreshed. I can't wait to do it again!!!!
P.S. This is from my blog post at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/jbrindamour/view/omg-2-miles-99363

That's awesome, good for you!! I have the C25K app on my iPod all ready to go, but I haven't pushed myself enough into actually starting it. I know I need to... I want to feel that high from a good run!0

Wow that's really fantastic. I also count seconds n sometime miles to push myself. Currently I could do 1 mile at 5mph, I think I might need to push myself a little bit more. Awesome post. Thanks for the post.0

Awesome! I always do the walk/jog intervals on the treadmil 3.0 walking and 5.0 jogging and I hate it because you burn so many calories running. Hopefully I will be able to run straight through soon.0

You have inspired me to give this a try. I am not a runner either but I have been doing well. My only question is did you do this on an incline or just flat?0

It was just flat, no incline. I'm not quite ready to add that in yet!0
