Hi guys! I'm wondering how many cals u eat before a morning workout...my usual routine is to wake up have coffee, drop my daughter off at school, come home and have a piece of pb toast then hit my insanity...that's about an hr total...what I noticed the past two days without coffee( I'm slowly get away from it) is that I have been super tired during the workout...I honestly think because I don't have the caffiene kick..so what will give me enough energy to put my all in a workout? And when should I eat it..right when I wake up then take the 20 mindrive(total) and get straight to the workout when I get home? Thank u!!

I generally have a cup of coffee and then do 12 miles on the bike. I take a protein drink immediately after (almost 30 grams) then shower up.

I'm out the door to exercise within 20 mins or so of getting out of bed so I don't eat anything before I go. But, if I was working out hard and had a bit of time I would have a snack first.
In your situation I'd eat something before you leave home to drop your daughter off - I can't think of anything worse than exercising with a full belly!

im also trying to figuure this out! im new to insanity and just started a week or so ago and im scared that i might not have enough energy to do my best if i dont eat right, today i ate half a banana and some almonds. Depending on how i feel tom. morning, i think i might try doing insanity on an empty stomach, this might sound wierd but i dont like eating breakfast then working out then have to eat again, i feel like i just ate so many cals and my day hasnt even started yet! you know?

I'm like you -- my runs are soooooo much better if I've eaten a little something. Usually a half of a Nature's Grain (high protein, high fiber, low carb) bagel with a schmere of PB2 on it, and a cup of coffee. With that fuel in my tank, my runs are dramatically better than they are on "empty." The trick is paying attention to how YOUR body reacts to different eating routines and replicating those that work best for you. Sounds like you're on track already, girl. Keep it up!!

Thanks robin! In my coffee I put one tbsp of half and half and 1tsp of sugar....not bad to bad, it doesn't affect my eating acutally...
I have to eat something I don't mind eating before and after, I'm always finding it hard to meet my min cal goal so not eating would make it harder lol

I prefer not to have anything. But having said that I always take at least an hour after I wake up to eat breakfast or I end up sick to my stomache. I also don't drink coffee so I just grab a glass of water and then workout. I don't have the option to work out in the morning all the time but when I do I love it.

I have found that if I am doing a cardio workout with more than around a 400 cal burn I have to have between 200-300 cals in order to not feel sick. PB on sandwich thins or a protein shake made with some fruit has worked well for me.

Good luck finding your sweet spot. Was a bit of trial and error for me.

I usually grab a slimfast shake out of the fridge before I head out to the gym. It's hard for me to eat stuffso earlier in the am, but my doc told me I need to try to eat before I work out. Slimfast drinks aren't too bad, they're good for protein and fiber, and they're about 190-200 calories (my workouts burn 1,000+ calories). I don't do the whole slimfast plan, just one shake in the morning.

usually depends on the workout. if its just normal cardio, then not alot, usually only take 5gm's of BCAA's before and after. helps maintain muscle mass.

if doing crossfit, or lifting heavy weights, i'll have a shake ready in fridge the night before, and as soon as wake, down haff of it.
My shakes are about 420 cals.

hey Paramore are awesome! Saw them live in sydney early last year i think it was.
Was lucky enough to meet the girl (her name now escapes me...), chatted for a good 15 minutes, ha!
