Hi, can we carry over fitbit activity calories to another day? I have my activity level on myfittnesspal set to sedentary, so activity is only being counted once, but is there a way to save un used calories for another day?

I write unused calories off to weight loss. You can do it in your head if it's that important - overshoot tomorrow by the amount you were under today.

Ok, so doesn't really matter in the great scheme of things then?

I don't believe there is a way to enter them for another day but just keep an eye on your weekly deficit. I carry over extra calories to other days or save some if I know I will need them. Some days I am under my calorie goal, some days I am above.

There are two approaches to calorie counting.

    1) The daily target approach. You start with calories burnt in your standard activity level, then measure exercise. That's your daily burn. Subtracting your desired deficit gives you your budget for the day. That means you can eat more on the days you work out or exercise more. Fitbit supports this approach automatically because it changes your budget as you exercise more.

    2) The TDEE approach. You estimate your average daily caloric needs. You don't track exercise, steps, or any other activity. You eat the same on workout and non-workout days.

    Both methods work equally well.

You're proposing using #1 as your main method, but with some elements of #2 - that is, averaging out your calories across the week. There's nothing wrong with it in terms of weight loss. It's just hard to keep track of because there's nowhere to write it down or track it.

Just keep an eye on your weekly calories. I try to hit the weekly average rather than stick to the same calories every day. I like the variety, and I think it helps my weight loss. Plus, it gives me some wiggle room if we go out to dinner or go to a party.
