The dreaded 2nd week weigh in!

Did anyone gained or not lose on their second week? I am beyond frustrated and on the verge of tears right now. Granted I've lost 6 lbs total but it was all in the first week and the second week was a roller coaster. Maybe I shouldn't weigh myself everyday but I have been eating between 1300 - 1500 calories exercising 6 days a week HARD. And nothing! I know in the Biggest Loser show that they always have trouble with this week so I'm thinking this might be normal.
I'm not going to quit but just upset! Need some encouragement.

I gained 2 pounds on week two. Just hang in there and the weight will come off.0

the first week is always easiest cause you mainly lose water weight. the best advice i can give you is don't pay so much attention to the scale and start measuring yourself. that will be the true indicator. if you are working out you will be transforming your body, replacing fat with muscle so you may not see the scale move sometimes. keep your chin up, it will all be worth it in the end :flowerforyou:0

How much weight do you have to lose? If it's less than 30 pounds, and you are working out HARD 6X a week and only eating 1300-1500 calories, it might not be enough.
Or, it could be that it just takes a little time for your body to start shedding. A lot of what I've read is that those first 5-7 pounds that fall off quick is water weight, and after that it's 'real'. I always had trouble before in that it would take at least a month before I'd lose even the first pound, and by then I was frustrated and would quit.
this time around, I started working out 6X a week as well, and working out over an hour every single time. I bought a heart rate monitor and wouldn't quit until I had burned over 400 calories. I'm now doing closer to an hour and a half and 450-750 calories a day, depending on whether I am bicycling or hiking with the dogs (my 2 primary forms of exercise). I eat close to 2000 calories a day. And I'm losing about 2.5 pounds a week. I have nearly 60 pounds to lose (well 45 now! yay!!!) so I know that some of my *quick* weight loss is because I do have a lot of shed....
Anyhow, just hang in there, and give your body time to adjust. You might find that you will lose 5 pounds again suddenly, and then nothing for a bit. Everyone loses differently!0 -
Our bodies are a complex organism. Things that work for one person don't necessarily work for another person. What might help one person lose five lbs. might only help another person lose one lb. Quite often people expect immediate results from something they have to done to lose weight. You can't see or feel the lbs drop off as you are exercising. You can not get on the scale after a 2 mile run and see the difference immediately.
Also, our bodies can get used to a routine. If you keep your activities varied and shake things up every once in a while, you are more likely to see results. The same is true for hitting a plateau. When you hit a plateau, shake it up that week, not just one or two days.
Keep at it. Two weeks in is hardly the time to give up. You are just getting started.0 -
Hang in there. I decided I was just going to do what I know is right and let the weight take care of itself. Sort of a biproduct rather than the goal.
Hey I quite smoking about 10 years ago. This is way easier.0 -
Thanks for all the great advice! I want to lose 60 lbs and now that I'm in my 40's it seems my metabolism has come to a grinding halt. I will keep plugging away because the other options are just not an option!0

My metabolism to. Soo frustrating. But honestly, cardio, cardio, cardio for me is taking it off. Which sucks, because I hate cardio! LOL Well, I used to hate it anyway, I love bicycling! If I couldn't bicycle though, I'd still have this weight, because I can't stand aerobics, or any of the structured cardio stuff at the gym. I've tried them numerous times. And I can't run because of shin splints. So biking seems to be my only option! And tons of hiking with the dogs. Which they love.0 -
Hey everyone!!!! I made it thru week two and lost 2 lbs in week 3. BUT even better I lost 7.5 inches!!!! I changed up my exercise routine and did some in the morning and the evening. I think that must have done something because it was a great week for me.
Thanks for all the advice and encouragement! This site ROCKS.0
