When taking protein in shake wise or bar wise are they bad when trying to lose weight. How much is too much?

It depends. If it puts you over your calorie goal, it's too much. If it crowds out nutrient rich fruits and veggies and other whole foods, it's too much. If it fits your calorie goal and you have adequate fibre, carbs, fats, and micronutrients already, it's fine.
I know that's not the answer you were looking for, but it's impossible to say how much you should eat without knowing your goals, total diet and your calorie allowance.0 -
A girl I work with has replaced a meal with a protein shake and snacks with protein bars.... She said that's what I should do. But another friend told me I only need to do those if I'm building muscle so now I'm confused.0

Step 1: calculate your calorie goal
Step 2: calculate proper macronutrient goals
Step 3: eat whatever you want to hit those goals every day
Suggested macronutrient goals:
Protein: 1 gram per pound of LEAN Body Mass
Fat: 0.35g per lb of body weight. If you are very overweight you can lower this slightly to 0.3g.
Carbohydrates: Remaining calories after you have accounted for protein and fat.0 -
