Ladies-ravenous on your period?

Mine comes the day or two after my period ends. Like.. today! No matter what I eat, I'm inexplicably hungry and occasionally lightheaded/dizzy. My blood sugar tends to hang out in the low-mid 70's, which probably explains all those symptoms.
Eating doesn't actually make it much better, and if I eat too much my gastroparesis means that I feel even worse - I can be sick to my stomach because I'm overfull and STILL hungry. I just drink lots and lots of hot green tea and figure that menopause is going to be even worse, so I should enjoy it while I can.0 -

Nope. Me too. Or, we're both weird. [/quote]
And I get that too! Again, only sometimes! It is weird but maybe not unusual if you know what I mean?

I do get what you mean. I also turn into a raging you-know-what with a very increased *ahem* drive right before ovulation. I use an app to track my dates, but every single month after thinking terrible thoughts about someone/something I look at it and think, "OH. That't it."
**Edited to add: I do find that working out really, really helps at both times.0 -
i crave protein and carbs before the storm, so i usually give in to whatever craving i have. soon as it starts, my appetite dies down.. so i guess it events out later. it's depressing in the meantime though. doesn't help with the hormones raging and all!0

Everyone is affected different. My sister-in-law eats like a bird the whole month but absolutely gorges herself when she's on her period. Me? I get cramps so bad it makes me nauseous (I often puke at least a couple of times because of the pain), so I eat very little during TOM and normally end up losing the most during that time of the month.

I'm thinking that hot flashes sound better than my hilariously unpredictable period. I never signed up to have these body parts, who do I return them to?0 -
I ate 4,500 calories in chocolate over my maintenance for the week. I'm trying to fast today but it seems almost impossible. I'm wondering if maybe I should just move on, accept the weight gain, and have a normal day. Ugh0

Blegh... Mother Nature strikes again. I've been ravenously hungry all this week, and, as soon as my curse comes, I am too nauseated to eat. I'm tempted to curl up in a corner, try to eat a small dinner, and use the leftover calories for whenever I am feeling better.
I like sniffing peppermint essential oil when I'm nauseated. My boyfriend makes fun of me..but it makes me feel better0 -
I'm ravenous regardless... I don't get cycles (thank you meds for endo) but I get cycles of insatiable need for very specific foods... once I have them even in the littlest amount I am fine.. for a day or two. And now... what 37lbs and just one year after a lot of hardship that assisted in prevention of regular healthy consumption and lack of ability and space to exercise I am having to relearn how to deal with it.
Darn harmones/medications!!
In very, very short I find if I can have a morsel of what I craved I can get past the craving and remain on track.0 -
Glad to hear it's normal! I feel like I'm always starving during my period, even though I still feel chubby and bloated!0

Starving yourself will just make you binge later. Just eat at a small deficit for a while.

I am a ravenous mess the week of ovulation, and the week before my period.
I've seen my pattern, and now I keep a few healthy things in my pantry to help those cravings.
I noticed that I'd want carbs & fat. I keep dark chocolate on hand. When I get a craving I eat a small amount. I also eat popcorn, or a Tbsp. Peanut butter. Usually that buys me enough time to find something to occupy my time.
I noticed taking a bath, cleaning, painting my nails, or doing something else to pamper myself helps.0 -
Interesting to hear how others experience this. I feel hunger (not like nursing a baby ohmygod I have to eat everything right now!), but it's a mindless hunger, more of a whimper than a scream. Sometimes I'll catch myself making way too many trips to the kitchen, I'll look over at the calendar, and sure enough, I'm two days away from my period. By period day, I'm just nauseated and bloated, so the eat-a-thon only lasts about two days.
^this is my experience too. Not totally ravenous like nursing (that was justbOMG!), but according to my diary I do usually eat more a day or two before. But I've also noticed that on the first day of my period, I usually eat proportionally less. So it evens out.0 -
I tend not to eat anything extra durning my TOM, but I will admit that I do feel more hungry during that week.0

Water definitely helps out alot. As far as cravings, uh.. good luck. Periods suck!!0
