When we (the hubby amd I) decided to start the weightloss journey back on February 17th I was obese at 275 lbs on my 5'6"(169cm) frame. I was 48 and can not remember a time when I was not at least overweight. I remember going on my first diet at age 13. I hated anything that had anything to do with exercise.... My eating habits however where not as bad as most peoples (I never liked fast food and never was one for all those sweet drinks). I was always the big girl or the fat one in school. In my family I was always the only overweight sibling out of 7 kids and my husband of 23 years was always lighter than I am (he was 213 lbs on 6' (183 cm) and is now 162 lbs). I will catch him eventually...lol. When we started it was for him to loose weight to get back to the Army weight standards after multiple surgeries and I just went along for support. I never thought in my wildest dreams I never thought I could stick with it this long and loose this much. I have realized that depriving myself of some of the foods like ice cream, burgers etc. makes me quitt. So now I will have a burger as a treat once in a while, but only on a day I have exercised and then adjust my other meals a little down also. I have learned to modify a lot of my cooking to being healthier and still very tasty, better protion control, eating small snacks during the day and I got hooked on exercise.....The result is a weightloss of 104lbs in a little over 10 month, my cholesterol is now at 116 vs over 300....I have learned not to look at this as a diet since it implies a temporary change, but as a lifestyle change. I also have learned to enjoy exercise: I love my walks and my bike rides....now I just need to loose the last 11lbs ....what is your success story???

Wow! Congratulations! Your start number, height and age are very close to mine. I was very hesitant to start this program having been on I think every other diet known to mankind. Today is my day one. You have really given me some motivation-thank you so much!!!

Just keep with it.... we all "fall" down. The trick is to get back up, dust yourself off and start back up.... If I can do it so can you. ;-)

Congratulations! I was motivated to see that you lost and average of 10 lbs a month - MFP just told me I'd lose 3 pounds between now and February - which did not make me happy.

Thanks, guys B) I did find that exercise was the key for me. I started out with slow walks (3mph) for an hour or so. I also started parking a little further away from the store and taking the stairs, if it was only one floor... a pedometer helped a lot too. I made me go for those extra few steps after dinner to get to those 10000 steps. On days with really bad weather I have walked up and down the isles at walmart or gone to the mall (most malls open a side door before they open and mallwalkers are welcome) Over the summer I was going hiking on the weekends, going to water aerobics, going swimming etc. I started using the recumbant bike (better on the hips and knees) at out local gym too. Now I am up to walking/jogging at 4.5 mph for up to 2 hours, but that was a grafual process. Yesterday I did a 9.1 mile walk/jogg from the beach cottage we are staying at to my son's house on Camp Pendelton and back. If anyone told me I would something like that a year ago I would laughed very loudly and thought never. I have gotten to a stage where I feel unhappy with myself, if I do not exercise (another one that I never expected out of myself). Today we are moving from our cottage to a hotel, so I am up early to get a walk in before checking out....lol....so get out there and start moving (slowly), it will help.... ps eating too little (1200 cal) is NOT the key (your body will think it is starving and hold on to all that fat and make weightloss very slow).... reasonable eating (for me around 1600 cals to 2000 cals) and more exercise was the key. I eat more when I burn more ( that is how I get to eat my burger once in a while). Also I my setting for fat is only 20% and protein is 30% (per a nutritionist). I hope this encourages as well as gives some more info, because as a former obese person I know, it is very difficult to believe all those skinny weight loss/ exercise people... lol....good luck to all and do not let set backs stop you.... keep the ultimate goal in mind: a new healthier you!
