Hey guys, I just started using the Polar Heartrate Monitor so I can track my calories accurately throughout the day. My total calories used for the day were about 2000 (including exercise), so from what I have learned I could have a caloric deficit of 500 by consuming only 1500 calories and i should lose around 1lb a week...

and lets say if I have a day where I do less exercise and only use 1800 calories total I should consume 1300 if I want to lose 1 lb a week?

Just want to make sure I'm doing this right

Yep, that is the general idea. Depending on how much weight you need to lose you may not need to do that steep a deficit. In general, if you eat less that the heart rate monitor says you burned, you should lose weight

Is that estimate based on wearing your heart rate monitor all day? If so, that's really not the best way to get an estimate of your calories burned. Heart rate monitors are most accurate for steady state cardio only and the numbers you get from anything else are going to be off.

This. Trial and error will put you in a good ball-park range for daily expenditure.

Yes the estimate is from wearing my monitor all day...from when I get up, do my work outs and i take it off before I go to bed. I'm curious as to how it would not be accurate? This monitor is actually strapped to my chest all day, it's not just a pedometer.

I am 5'0, 26 years old and 130lbs, I want to lose about 20 more lbs of fat. I'm finding it much more difficult to lose fat now that's why I chose to do a 500cal deficit, do you guys think that is too much for my body type?
