I've been lurking the message boards for years now and always wondered whether or not I should try posting, try making friends, try being (e)social. I guess now is the time to do so with the new year ahead. I hope it helps to keep me on track.

I normally find it pretty cliche when everybody is all, "New year, new me!" and making resolutions that they know they never stick to. This year feels different - I've been looking forward to it for a few months now. I've tried to lose weight many times before and sometimes it has worked, but I've always gained the weight back. I'm currently at my all-time heaviest of 215lbs. I've been noticing small, awful changes in my body like having a hard time breathing after walking upstairs or even changes in my heart. I want this change in order to feel physically, emotionally, and mentally healthier.

So here I am, all guards down, ready to try to accept the mess I've created and the journey from here on out. Friendships are welcome.

I was reluctant to post, too, but I have found that having encouraging friends is quite helpful on mfp. Welcome!

I'm not much an (e)friend maker myself. As cliche as it is, and after the last few months, I think it's probably something I need to jump on-board with myself. New year, new friendships, less weight.

A few weeks ago I was in same boat, Katie - i had been watching weight creep back on after a successful loss a few years ago.. and I never posted either. I always felt my weight loss was a shameful admission to letting myself get un-fit, after years of being a fitness hound.

It gets easier as you keep working at it. :)

Welcome! I didn't post much, either, for my first couple years on here (I was an on-again-off-again MFPer). But I committed to making a change in July, and have stuck with it. Over time, I've felt more comfortable posting on the forums on occasion. Good luck! :)
