A good place to start is to consistently track all of your food intake for a week. Measure and/or weigh everything. Don't focus on changing just yet. After a week look at how much you are really eating.
Look at your lifestyle. If you are sedentary you need to eat less than if you are active. Active doesn't just mean working out either- taking care of small children, or jobs that keep you on your feet make you active too.

    This is a good thread:

Using a TDEE calculator can help too. That calculates how much you are burning everyday. You can compare that to what you're actually eating (after logging) and make tweaks from there.
    Just google TDEE.

Remember to be truthful in your eat & exercise diary. Closet eating still counts. That's a trick I learned 200 pounds ago. Measure everything is another. A Tablespoon means A TABLESPOON , not a cupped hand guestimate.
