Hey everyone,
I absolutly love oatmeal and have it for breakfast almost everyday. I thought it would be interesting to swap oatmeal ideas.
Here, I'll start:
1/3 cup instant oatmeal
1 cup vanilla flavoured almond milk
1/4 water
1 Tbsp flax seed
1 Tbsp all bran buds
1/4 cup of dried cranberries and walnuts.
Mix all together and microwave for about 2 minutes.
Mmmmmm.....

Today I made steel cut oats per package direction(1 serving), stirred in a bit of canned pumpkin, vanilla, pumpkin pie spice, and brown sugar! Yummy! Sorry not a big measurer. The other day I mixed in a frozen 1/2 banana chunk(I save them for smoothies), quarter cup of frozen blueberries, tbs of finely chopped pecans, and a couple of teaspoons of sugar. I 've been playing around with my oats lately.
Good Stuff!0 -
I'm an oatmeal addict Here's a snack I make up when I'm craving a 'treat':
1/2 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup kashi go lean cereal
1 tbsp cocoa
2-3 stevia packages or honey
1 tbsp water
1-2 tbsp of natural almond butter
Mix all together and voila! You have a yummy crunchy oatmeal treat I sometimes heat it up for 30 seconds... Depends on the mood!0 -
1/2 cup porridge (sorry - I'm Scottish)
semi-skimmed milk and water
Microwave 1 min 30 seconds then add handful or blueberries or blackberries, a drizzle of honey and a spinkling of cinnamon.
I can't get almond milk here, but I might try adding ground almonds tomorrow. Sounds delicious!0 -
My favorite is
1/4 cup oats
1/2 cup water
1tbs Raspberry jam/preserves (or marmalaide)
1/2 cup soy milk on top
*If its too sour
Second Fave
1/4 cup oats
1/2 cup water
1/2 tbs brown sugar sprinkled on top
1/2 cup soy milk0 -
My go-to oatmeal:
1/2 c. oats
1/2 t. cinnamon (or so, I never measure it)
1 T. craisins
1 T. brown sugar
1/2 T. chia seeds (this is 1/2 of the scoop that came with the chia seeds.)
1 T. chopped walnuts
1 T. ground flax seed
1 cup + a splash water
tiny pinch of salt
microwave 50% 3 min. 15 sec.
The whole thing is 350 calories which is getting up there for breakfast but it has lots of fiber & protein so it lasts a long time.
While it's cooking I empty the dishwasher!0 -

You can actually make almond milk very easily. There are a lot of youtube videos that cover it.0 -

My new favorite is savory oatmeal...
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 cup water or stock...and cook as directed
Saute veggies in a nonstick pan (onion, bell pepper, mushrooms...)
Stir veggies, 1T soy sauce, and a dash of sriracha hot sauce into prepared oatmeal
Add a touch of shredded cheese and top with a fried or poached egg...YUMMY!
I also like it with a heaping tsp of splenda and about a tablespoon of coffeemate light creamer...any flavor you like. Oh and walnuts or pecans (I'm kinda weird and need something crunchy in my oatmeal-I don't do mush.)0 -
I just discovered steel cut oats last year and I have fallen in love with them. The best part is I make a whole pot on sundays and portion out for the week. Then you can just heat and go. I just follow the package and toss in cinnamon, walnuts, almond extract, splenda brown sugar mix and dried apricots. yummmmmmy!0

I use steel cut too, just with cinnamon and agave to sweeten, but I like the pumpkin idea! Maybe with some vanilla almond milk for me.0 -
1/2 cup oats
1 cup skim milk
2 packets Equal
1 tablespoon Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder
Add a small banana, if they are not too ripe (I HATE ripe bananas)
YUM!0 -
I can't find steel cut oats here I was going to use them but i go the old fashioned ones.0

I just have one packet of original flavour Quaker 2 minute microwave oats. I'm so boring, haha.0

I love oatmeal!! Mine isn't all that exciting. I just do some oats (I've been using Old Wessex organic? But I'm not picky about the brand), some cinnamon, half a scoop of chocolate protein powder, and a tablespoon of peanut butter. Yummy! If I don't do the peanut butter or protein powder, then I put in a small ripe banana or half an apple cut into small chunks.0
