Clothing Question

For those of you who have lost a lot of weight or in the process of doing so - what do you do with your clothing? I ask because I have been on MFP for a little over a week, but I have lost some before this (dunno how much, wasn't keeping track then) and my pants are already way huge. Like, falling off huge. Not flattering at all. The problem is that I don't want to go out and buy new pants every couple of weeks when the ones I have get too big and a belt just looks absurd (seriously, one pair of capris that I have - I was wearing them the other day and they were just way huge, so my husband put my son inside of them WITH me). I have a bunch of jeans in a cabinet in my bedroom from before I was pregnant with my youngest son and I can't wait to fit into them again, but until then... ??? Suggestions?

I am experiencing the same thing. I brought me a pair of suspenders that I wear with my pants and it helps alot. The pants that I really love, I have taken them to my seamstress and she has taken them in for me. It can be costly, so I only have two pairs a month done.0

I took in my two favorite pairs of jeans, but the oher ones I just gave to Goodwill or just threw away. Most of my shirts still fit, and the ones that don't I got rid of. I buy my smaller sized clothes at consignment stores or Goodwill. I don't want to spend a lot on clothes that won't be fitting me for more than a month or two. Once I get to my goal weight I plan to reward myself with some new stuff Hopefully spending the money will help me stay at my goal!0

I have a ton of clothes and I am going to try eBay, maybe Craigslist. After that we have Hearts for the Homeless (yellow boxes) drop boxes. They will go there.0

Funny you asked....I just walked out of the bathroom and realized that I can pull my pants down without unbuttoning or unzipping them! YEAH!! Okay - I'm "fortunate" because I can go to my closet to "shop".....I have 3 sizes of pants in there, because my weight has always been a yo-yo! Here's what I would suggest for you - go to a Goodwill store and look for some things to get you by until you lose some more. That way you won't be spending an arm & a leg for clothes you will hopefully be wearing for a very short period of time. Of course if you can, it's also nice if you can splurge a little and buy something new for yourself too as you lose weight. A friend of mine is also losing weight - and she's a size larger than me - so SHE will benefit from me giving her my stuff that becomes to big for me!0

You could sell them and maybe buy new clothes at a goodwill or something until you reach your goal. I also did this. I went from a 14 to a 10 and went out and bought new clothes. A month later they were too big and I wish I would have just found some jeans at the goodwill instead of buying new. Sometimes you even get lucky and get brand new, brand name with tags for $5.
Congrats on your loss!0 -
GO TO A TAILOR!! Find a good alteration place in your area. Seriously, it might cost you the price of a new pair of jeans, but to have ALL of your stuff fitted. Take everything you like. The person will be able to tell you what is salvageable and what can't be made smaller. you'll still have a lot of good clothes and they'll fit you for a fraction of the price!!!0

I'm having the same issue...hate to say that it's a problem because I'm so excited to have lost weight and need new clothes! The dumpy butt and baggy hips when your clothes are too big just aren't flattering especially when you're excited to show off your slimmer figure!
I have a lot of CAbi clothes since a friend of mine sells them and I've been looking at selling them on eBay. I've never sold anything on eBay so I'm a little apprehensive about it but friends tell me it's easy. I have made some eBay purchases of some of my favorite pieces in smaller sizes. A smaller price tag than what I paid for them to start with too...
Congrats and good luck!

I am selling them on eBay. Then I use whatever $$ I make to buy new stuff. You can get great stuff at fabulous prices, so you don't have to break the bank for transitional clothing. Whatever doesn't sell, I donate or give to friends.0

Plato's closet is great... you can sell your old stuff to them that doesn't fit and then they give you a store credit so you can shop thier racks for stuff that fits!
Its great!
Ross, tj maxx or marshalls are great too... its all brand new stuff but super on sale because its "last years design" or what not.0 -
So far I have been both donating and buying clothes from Goodwill. That way I don't have to pay alot for clothes (pants here are about 4-8) and I get a tax deduction next year. Also have a few friends that are bigger then me and they have been letting me buy there old clothes.0
