Do you still have a friend(s) that still see you as fat?

I lost 78 pounds (12 to go) and went from a 2X to medium/large clothes. I have donated/given away ALL my X-size clothes - I don't EVER want to go back to them. I have one friend who keeps telling me how great I look so she realizes how much smaller I am. My dilemma- for birthday/Christmas this friend gives me plus-size clothes that look awful on me! She also shops sales months in advance so I know it will be too late to return the items. Do any of you have this problem and if so, how do you handle it? (Don't want to hurt feelings)

i would probably approach as a joke and say "hey these clothes don't fit lol sometimes i have a hard time believing how much weight i've lost too!" i don't think there's any way to get yourself a useful gift out of the situation but at least she will realize her mistake and hopefully apologize. maybe ask her if she wants them back? if she's a sale shopper then maybe she knows some tricks to late returns.

She may have bought them when you were bigger.

I'd tell all of my friends and family unanimously: DO NOT buy me clothes for gifts.

Music, books, scarf, winter hat...candle holders...ANYTHING but clothing. Nobody has to buy you clothes except yourself!

    This.

And to be honest, people are often crap at estimating size. Not from being mean or anything, but just because women's clothing isn't even close to standardized, and we all know how lousy we are at eyeballing proportions from dealing with food portions, much less the human body.

But to second @krawhitham, I think it's okay to ask people close to you not to buy you clothes in the future.
