31 y/o woman with athletic frame seeks CURVES!

Okay, so I always knew that I had an "athletic" frame.... track, basketball and volleyball are the sports that everyone has always assumed I played because I have muscular and toned legs and very shapely arms. Some of that definition and tone have lessened, but I'm still blessed with a high metabolism and I am on the smaller side... however I don't have enough CURVES! I do, however, have breasts (32G, not as large as you'd think on my frame), but beneath that my waist and hips go straight down like a board... and my booty is little. :s

5'7"
163lbs
size 6
32% body fat
30in waist (at smallest)
31.5in waist (at largest)
40in hips
23in thigh

At first I thought I could simply "spot reduce" the weight in my waist and turn that 30in into a ~26in and *voila* I'd have some shape... but of course spot reducing isn't possible, and no matter what I do a 26in waist seems like an impossible task for my body.

SO... can anyone help me understand what I can do to get some friggin curves!?!? Ideally I'd love a 26in waist and 42+in hips - but without surgery (or pregnancy, lol, not an option here right now!) I'm not sure how this can happen. When I wear a waist trainer (for fun) I get a 26in waist and its the exact shape I'd love to have!

Sorry for the long post... any advice is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!

You may find that, if you lose weight and maintain/gain muscle, your waist-to-hip ratio becomes more pronounced. My ratio has become more pronounced- Hips- 45 to 40 inches, Waist- 36 to 29.5 inches. So, I went from .8 waist to hip ratio to .73 waist to hip ratio. At 5'7 I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to get your waist size down. You can't spot reduce, but you can lose weight overall, which will reduce your waist, sooner or later.
  • The answer is squats, squats, and more squats. Find someone that can teach you proper form....but once you start hitting them a few times a week you will notice waist reducing and *kitten* increasing. Please please use proper form though. Squat butt is a real thing!!

About the best thing I can recommend is to lift weights to maintain your muscle while you lose weight. That way you'll keep more of the muscles in your booty while you lose fat overall. This may give you more of an hourglass appearance. Then once you get pretty lean you can bulk and try to add more to your glutes that way. I'm told that Bret Contreras Strong Curves program is designed to build up your glutes so that might be a place to start.

But keep in mind that genetics plays a huge role in body shape. Some things can be changed with a lot of hard work and dedication but others just are what they are.

There is a book called Strong Curves. Great info on exactly what you are looking for.
