I think she kind of has a point, but there is also a point to the fact that it's an overly simplified take on being overweight. She's gaining IN ORDER TO LOSE. She didn't grow up fat or get fat by the course of life than many of us do. So........I mean, she's technically right, it's easy to lose weight. But she's not taking into consideration the mental blocks.
But I think anyone that yells "omg fatshaming" needs to just shut up already. Oy.0 -
Heroine all the way0
-
Ok.. but how many years will she stay fat so that it's actually realistic? In order to prove anything, she has to let her body start thinking it's natural form is to be fat - so that is resists losing weight like everyone else's body does. And yes as an above poster said - she already knows she's going to lose it after... she probably doesn't have the same mental blocks!
Not saying people can't lose weight if they need to. Just that most of the battle is deciding to actually try to lose weight and sticking with it.
I don't really feel like commenting on heroine/villain. It's really just all for attention anyway.0 -
I've never been that impressed with celebrities and such that lose weight.
Personal trainers, personal chefs, diet plans, infinite budget to buy premade meals, gym memberships, etc-- they can have a lot of help that many overweight folks can't.
Yes, they will still have to work at it, but you can't rationalize that it will be that easy for everyone.
Her attitude leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth and a desire to yell "YOU DON'T KNOW ME!" Ha, but to each their own.0 -
I agree with her logic of eat less, move more, after all that's what we're all aiming for. But anyone who publicly refers to the overweight and obese as 'fat *kitten*' has bigger problems than the need to lose a few stone.0

She is a revolting woman, who will say and do anything to get her face on tv. She specialises in being inflammatory and pitting people against each other. For example, fat VS skinny, breastfeeding mothers VS bottlefeeding mothers, working mothers VS SAHMS, childless women VS women with children etc etc etc *gag*0

This is so true
However she also has a point
Not wanting to stick to a diet, excuses why I couldn't stick to a diet, chronic laziness and simply enjoying food are the reasons I stayed comfortably overweight for decades ...interspersed with periods of fad diets / gimmicks / weightwatchers / slimming world / low carb / Atkins / harcombe where I would drop weight then drop off the treadmill and resort to my normality and put it back on and more
It is easy to fool ourselves with our excuses, and boy I had plenty of them: from PCOS, to emotional turmoil, panic disorders and asthma to pneumonia, sick husband, having kids, working full time, being a full time parent, you name it ...it is easy to feel unmotivated..for me it was easy to look in the mirror and still feel like I looked OK ...only in photographs did I look fat ...yeah right :eyeroll:
Until I threw away all the noise ...went to counting calories and getting fit
Eat fewer calories than I burn, burn more calories to eat more calories, revel in fitness goals
It's really not rocket science ...it's getting rid of the noise and committing
And if a chronically lazy fecker like me can do it ...anybody can0 -
I am curious to see how hard she will find losing the weight. She does have a lot of things at her disposal with her tv status, but at the same time you do need the emotional will power. That's why some celebrities stay heavy and you see some do the weight roller coaster. I do think it is sad that she has not gone through the emotional side of the weight gain. Like the self loathing and disgust people feel about their body and guilt over binge eating. It seems like she is going to be more of a "Fat Tourist". If she has such perfect control over her eating habits she will not be able to empathize at all with people who don't. To her it is probably fun eating all she wants with no emotional side effects. She is gaining the weight without any emotional ties to it. Who knows, maybe she will develop diabetes in the process and become a spokesperson. I think it will take longer than she thinks it will take to lose it. It reminds me of how much longer it took Morgan Spurlock took to lose the weight he gained filming Super Size me.0

Daily Mail?
Katie Hopkins?

It's a stunt. And she has a team of professional cooks and trainers working for her.0

lol "Fat Tourist"...pretty clever but kinda true. I'd be curious as to how she loses. I hope it is purely focused on CICO and no endorsements (like shakes...even though that is a matter of CICO...some don't get that) because I think that'd send a powerful message to alot of people...doing it with normal, everyday food regardless of her context. It'd be good if she ate how she gained but less of it for instance. Maybe she'll join MFP and have a public diary0

that has been done before, those links that i've provide is from a trainer who decided to gain 90 lbs but he did it he said to try to know exactly what his clients felt dealing with overweight issues, how he express himself, the reasons for why he did it i have more respect for him than this lady approach for the whole let me show you how i can gain wait and lose wait with no excuses.
im gonna say that at least i suppose that at some level is a good thing that somehow is bringing attention to the epidemic of obesity not only in her country but worldwide
i can not speak from everyone else journey, but people that have never had weight issues could gain all the weight that they can, challenge them self to lose it and do whatever they want to understand what i may have gone tru my life or fell but they will never get it
i've being overweight/ obese/ morbidly obese my entire life since the day i was born i was already overweight, i grow up in a family where being overweight was/is a normal rule, where overeating was my way of life, when i realize i was different in bad way i was already a teenage and many many pounds heavier than my friends, and if i go on this will be too long
now im not going to hide the fact that yes of course i have gone through every excuse on the world before to not try to lose weight but it's not as simple as this lady wants to prove , yes the how to do it might be but the doing it, the changing who you are and everything you know about relationship with food it's not (at least for me)
and i can not even let go the fact that she knows she can do it, it's her identity, she knows in her heart that she can do it, i on the other side don't even know if i ever going to do it or how in hell will i feel, that's not who i am , i have never being in a normal weight my whole life , to know that you (i) have more than a 100 lbs + to lose i don't even give my self permission to go beyond my mini goals.
i just..sorry i got passionate about and this it too long to read i suppose

weight weight** good lord sorry for the bad writing0

She's nothing but a mouthpiece. She has made a fortune by spouting horrible remarks (don't necessarily disagree with ALL she SAYS though) and the British media are lapping it up.
Edit: Quoted the wrong post

I have to believe she is one desperate fame seeker to do this to herself. I, personally, have seen enough on MFP and Biggest Loser, etc of the mechanics of losing weight. Sure, once you make the decision to lose weight, and adopt a healthy lifestyle, you have methods to lose/maintain/improve your health including getting to and maintaining a healthy weight. What I really want to see is how to maintain and how to help people through the true challenge of "doing" rather than sinking into acceptance of bad health. As a yo yo person for the first 52 years of my life, I would rather see programs addressed to making children's health a priority and to develop ways to stay on course through adulthood at all phases.0

A quick Google search under news would suggest otherwise. Articles by The Mirror, The Independent and the Telegraph to name but a few...

I would guess that The Independent, for one, isn't exactly "lapping it up".0

Sample news headlines from The Independent since the start of December...
Katie Hopkins kicks Seagull off pier
Katie Hopkins racist Ebola tweets
Katie Hopkins claims Ant and Dec did worse
Katie Hopkins calls Russell Brand a bully
Yeah, they're lapping it up too.

I think it's a waste of time, she can't know a thing about the emotional issues that come with being fat for a long time, or the emotional issues that made people fat in the first place. I mean, losing weight in itself is easy, once you're in the proper mindset. There's no doubt she'll be in the proper mindset, considering that she forced herself to get fat in the first place! The issue is getting in that mindset, and something she's obviously completely missing.0
