Hi all, what do you eat when you crave something sugary. Besides fruit or even yogurt, is there another lowfat/lowsugar/lowcarbs snack ??

Honestly, I reach for my gum. I am a gum-aholic.
With all the different choices out there now, you feel like you are having dessert for goodness sakes!!0 -
ha! just drink water! and try not to think about it! sometimes a lil bite of something sugar free helps but even thats not the answer, just try to stay away from it, the longer u do the less ull crave it, iknow its hard, i loooooooooooooooove sugar!!! LOL im SUCH a junk food eater! lol0

it's not exactly low sugar or low carb, but i know when i'm on TOM, i crave sweets a LOT. so I found a solution. I'll buy the snack size candy bars (or any snack size candy you like-for me it's Fast Breaks) and if I'm really craving it i'll have 1 and ONLY 1. It's 90 calories per snack bar and satisfies my craving without completely breaking the calorie bank sometimes it's ok to indulge, just remember moderation
and gum is good idea too, to reiterate ^^0 -
I keep boxes of sugar free instant pudding pudding around. You still get the taste of something sweet and it feels indulgent but it's like 70 calories a serving or something like that. However, you do need to watch the portions. Jello could work too but jello takes too long to set and i'm impatient0

Initially, you need to suck it up and get through it. Sugar has the same affect on the brain as crack does so you're basically in the same boat as an addict. When I did this, it was hard for about a week. I elminated my sugars as completely as I possible could - including fruit. After that first week, it got easier and now I limit my sugar to 30g a day, up to 50 right now because I'm pregnant.0

I will eat a special k snack bar (90 calories, 2 g fat, 16 g carbs). Or sometimes I just eat a minnature piece of dark chocolate...if you limit yourself to one it's not so bad once in awhile.0

Gum, water, chamomille tea.0

Amen to that! I'd go crazy without my gum0 -
I read somewhere that even sugar-free sweetners can increase your craving for sweets.0

Special K bars now come in raspberry cheesecake. Seriously.
Or I like 100 cal fudge bars.
And animal crackers. (these aren't actually that good for you, but I like to pretend since they look so innocent.)0 -
Here is a link I posted for the other day about sugar cravings.. I am not a big sugar fan. This does help me though adding it to my shakes or a drink. Glutamine supplements.

few cubes of a nice dark chocolate or a banana0

the time i crave sugar most is right after a work out so as soon as i finish a workout i get 1 chocolate (dove the good stuff lol)
hardly any calories and i eat it right after and it makes it so i don't crave sugar the rest of the time. I also chew gum and eat altoid mints.0 -
sugar free jello, gum, coffee with skim milk and a sweetener, hot chocolate that is made with water. When we feel hungry it is usually because we are thirsty. I always try a sweet drink first!0

I'm not really allowed sweets on my low carb diet. When I'm craving something, I'll usually have a coffee. It's warm and sweet (with splenda) and satisying. At least, satisfying enough to get me through.0

This isn't low sugar or low carb, but isn't too bad on calories... I get Sprout's Angel Food Cake... 60 or 70 calories per slice... Satisfies those cravings real quick! Skinny cow desserts are about 150 calories (but about 30g of sugar unfortunately)... Or I will get a chocolate bar (LOVE the Ghirardelli chocolate filled with caramel) and only have one piece... I can't eat an entire bar or even more than two pieces, they're too sweet.. I usually have one piece and I am good, so that works for me...
If there's one thing I've learned about myself... It's that if I want something sweet (which doesn't happen too often.. maybe once a week or so).. then I find something acceptable... because I can't stick to a diet where I deprive myself.. I've done that in the past, and obviously.. It hasn't worked!! I think the key is not to overindulge in it....
Good luck to you!!0 -
I'm all about the splenda.0

Baskin Robins sugar free hard candies in Cookies N Cream or Wethers Sugar Free Caramel Coffee hard candy. Mmmm...10 cals of less each, they last a while, they taste delicious, and are easy to bring anywhere!0

I'm all about the splenda.
Those using splenda...give stevia a try or sucanat They are both unprocessed sugars and taste great. Just a tip thats all.0 -
Tea, Tea and Tea. No sugar or milk, just straight up. I sometimes drink 3-4 cups in the afternoon when my cravings are at their worst.0
-
When I'm craving sugar and not REALLY hungry, then I have a cup of coffee with some fat free creamer and a few packets of splenda. It really helps. (And, no, I don't care about stevia or truvia or natural sugars. Don't even bother. Splenda is fine.)0
-
bedtime tea, I like the yogi brand, since I usually have my sweet cravings after dinner I find this works quite well.0
-
tootsie roll midgets a sweet treat with out feeling like you've blown the day.0

EDY's Real Fruit Bars they come in strawberry, wild berry and lime and they are low calorie and delicious! I also really like the sweetener Sun Crystals which is stevia and sugar cane mixed it's only 5 calories a packet and it's great in anything!0

I need to find out if those are available in Canada. I'm buying that dessert delights gum off eBay since it's not up here. Those are so good. Tastes just like ice cream with 5 cals.0
