Some favorite substitutions for high-calorie/high-fat foods?

I used to Snickers bars, but at 250 calories and who knows how much fat per bar, they add up quickly. I just found a new favorite...Fiber One oats and chocolate bars. The ones I got were only 140 calories each and they have over a third of my daily intake of fiber. mmmmmm good!
What are some of your favorite foods that are replacements for other things that are "less good for you"?

I like the Fiber One Oats and Caramel bars in place of cookies. They taste just like those oatmeal cookies with butterscotch chips.
I tend to find that if I'm craving some thing, say cheese cake, the only thing that will satisfy that craving is the actual food. So I will usually just eat the real thing and cut back elsewhere.0 -
I love Reece Cups. The Fiber One with oats and peanut butter is delicious. Only has 150 calories.0

Kashi cookies -- If I don't feel like chewing on them (they tend to be grainy and too crunchy for my failing teeth), I break them up into a bowl of bran flakes for e x t r a fiber.0

Veggie burgers on low fat buns with pickles and veggie cheese. Do I dare say... better then a greasy cheeseburger! :bigsmile:0

Dark chocolate! It's very yummy and I eat 2 pieces per day to keep the BAD cravings away.
Turkey Bacon- WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better for you and very tasty!
1 egg plus 2 whites instead of 3 egg omlette.
Double Fiber Wheat Bread instead of white.
No cheese on subs/sammys/burgers and no bun sometimes!
Thats all i can think of0 -
Turkey burgers on whole grain buns with broccoli instead of burgers and fries. Still downright tasty, and so many calories saved!
Oh, and 100-calorie packs of Oreos and Chips Ahoy! instead of the real deal. They're a good substitute, although sometimes I just crave the real thing.0 -
MINIS! Our department at work keeps a bag of mini candy treats. I go have one and I'm done. Some are 50 calories, which is a bit high for a bite, but it's better then 200 or more!0

Oh...and Jello pudding. mmmm...pudding. :bigsmile:0

Ocean spray drink mixes instead of full sugar juices. At 5 calories for 16 oz, its a great substitue and I don't feel like I am missing a thing.
Walmart brand, apple, sunrise orange and cranberry apple are good too!0 -

I agree with this. I find myself craving the veggie burgers more than those greasy fast food burgers. :drinker:0 -
I've been wanting to try the veggie burgers, but I'm afraid to. Are they made with soy protein or something like that?0

I think the veggie burgers are soy and veggies and very very good.
I really like the boca0 -
I now crave the Jennie-O cheddar brautwurst.....so yummy!0

Depends on what kind you get. Gardenburgers are my favorite, they are made from vegetables. They don't try to recreate a beef burger flavor like soy burgers. Gardenburgers have their own unique, texture-filled deliciousness!0

You guys should check out hungrygirl.com.
She has the low down on all kinds of yummy alternatives, recipes, and tons of snacks with low cals and fat.
I found a recipe for Onion Rings and it was really good.
You use fiber one cereal, egg beaters, some pam, and a whole onion,
and you bake it and you can eat the whole thing!!!
Check it out!0 -
I make chicken tenders by dipping them in egg whites, and coating them with crumbled almonds, then bake them at 350 for aproximately 25 minutes. A little Asian spicy mustard mixed with regular mustard for dipping and they are YUMMY!0

I am absolutely addicted to my morning coffee.. I used to pour in tons and tons of sugar and creamer.. Now I just put in 3 or 4 tablespoons of Silk brand vanilla soy creamer and that satisfies both the creaminess and the sweetness I like in a good cup of coffee without all of the fat and calories.0

green beans! When you dump a can on your plate and it fills up over half your plate for only 70 calories...that is awesome!!!!
I also like a couple slices of ham lunch meat with my eggs instead of sausage or bacon.0 -
Ballpark Turkey bacon, Turkey Sausage and Egg Beaters ...great for when my family wants a big breakfast on the weekends.
Fat free cheese--any kind, and 100% whole wheat Nature's Own bread( 50 calories per slice)0 -

I just ate a banana and peanut butter on extra crisp orowheat muffins (half) with a drizzle of honey. OH MY HEAVENS!!! YUMMM!!! Reminds me of french toast0

I can't believe I forgot that one. I LOVE and dedicate myself to drinking sugar free Kool Aid and I worship the Walmart brand!0
