I loooove asparagus, but I don't eat it enough to notice any changes.0

Funny thing is the fact that it makes EVERYONE's urine smell funky. But only about 25% of us have the genetic benefit of being able to SMELL it. That's right, everybody breaks down the sulfuric amino acids, but only some us can smell it due to having a specific gene set. I'm one of them...0

Never googled to confirm or deny, but I heard that it's not that your urine odour does not change after eating asparagus, it is that you can't detect the difference. Do you have a significant other that you could get to test out this maybe-myth?

I haven't followed the studies in a long time, but the last I had read, is that it wasn't theat simple. There are some who are able to smell in others but not their own, and some who can smell in their own and in others both. That there were some who excrete and some who don't. So, they determined it was a complex problem that required more study.
I throw out the disclaimer that I was a freshwater ecologist and invertebrates were more my forte then asparagus piss, and I don't closely follow developments in the genetics of asparagus piss.0 -
Love it. Eat it weekly. Yes. Within 10min0

Maybe, I notice it in others when I am in a public restroom, but I never notice it in my own.0 -

Apparently, it can be the ability to detect the scent AND differences in how the body processes the acid that determine if it happens.0 -
most certainly0
-
We really do talk about ANYTHING here, don't we?0
-
Yes.
And I can detect the change in myself and in others. There have been times I've walked into my work bathroom and thought... Asapargus strikes again! Asparagus.0 -
It's true. Weird, huh?0
