I want to set up a gym in my basement. It is plushy carpet with concrete below. Do I need additional padding? I have a piece of equipment with 4 exercises (pretty basic, not too industrial) and am planning on getting a bench with a barbell that could hold up to 150 lbs. I will be doing deadlifts but have never dropped a weight on the ground.
Is just carpet ok or do I need to invest in that expensive rubber tiles?

I lifted for many years on carpet before swapping it all out to rubber matting. It will be fine as is.0

Probably fine. I might build a deadlift platform if you're concerned but otherwise I doubt it matters much.0

As long as you don't get the cheap plastic "plates" (assuming they even still make those) you should be fine on either. I'm currently on a concrete floor in my basement, but would also like some rubber matting at some point.0

Just carpet is fine. I'm on a combo of plain concrete and a large area rug with no pad underneath and a wooden platform.0
