Well hello there! I just started a diet today and it's been hell. I wanted to eat ice cream, pizza and a cheeseburger. I ate turkey, cottage cheese, a banana and apple sauce. I'm about two seconds away from chewing through a locked pantry to crush a box of twinkles and some cup cakes.
It's currently snowing here in Iowa, supposed to get about a half a foot. I may run outside with a pint of chocolate sauce eat the damn snow.

Drink some water, distract yourself until the cravings pass. Read a book, leave the room where you normally eat and find something to do.
At first, tcravings are hell. But they are like waves. They hit, rise, and crest. If you can learn to surf just under, you'll stand a much better chance of surviving them and the more you survive the less effect they have on you.
Be strong, be determined, you can do it.0 -
It's hard to start making new and hopefully better lifestyle choices . . . .
It's hard . . . . But if it were easy . . . . everyone could do it !!!!

I love your post and I understand what you mean.I like to eat when I am bored. Today is my first day of my diet and it's hard. Good thing I'm not in Iowa with you because I know how to make snow ice cream...add me as friend if you like. I like people with a sence of humor.0

I see from your profile pic that you have a kid. When a craving hits, go play with your kid for 30 minutes. If at 30 minutes you still keep watching your clock and thinking about the craving, go ahead and have a piece. Most likely you've forgotten the craving in that 30 minutes, and you've done something nice for yourself. If your kid is elsewhere when the craving hits, do something else: watch an episode of your favorite tv show, go vacuum clean the bedroom, fix that thing in your house that you've been meaning to fix for a long time (we all have one of those), whatever it is that keeps your mind elsewhere.
Another trick: go brush your teeth. You know everything is going to taste like toothpaste and/or generally horrible right after, so you'll have to wait (and hopefully forget) the craving.0 -
You can still eat the foods you love. You just need to find ways to work them into your calorie and macro goals, either by lightening them up or by eating smaller portions (or a combination thereof).

Yep. This. Otherwise you'll go into a ravenous fit like you already described and will devour all the Twinkies. Don't deny or punish yourself.

I have good news for you.
EAT IT!!!
Eat what you WANT. But learn to control the portions. Don't just "Do it" all in one go, you have to teach yourself to do it. You learn to walk, you learn to ride a bike, you learn to swim. Take measurements and don't just focus on the scale.
Weights are your friends :)

If you need to step down to your calorie goal, it's okay. I did that at first. It's hard going straight from overeating to a big deficit.
And I second eating the foods you love in moderation. If you want a Twinkie, budget for a Twinkie!
BTW, it might help to see calories as a weekly instead of a daily thing, and budget for a calorie-dense meal by "banking" your calories.0 -

I am also finishing my first day on MFP, again. At least I am back, some good motivational advice here. I am glad I read this. I can usually track my food for about two weeks, at the time I start missing days, then miss exercise, then it all falls apart. I need to stay strong0
