Logging exercise on Fit Bit and MFP

I think I might be double logging. When I exercise, should I do it without the FB on and then log the exercise in MFP? It seems like wearing the FB during cycling, running, or any exercise and logging in MFP will double log activity.

You are correct. Although, if I log in MFP, Fitbit will give me negative calories to get the extra calories down to what Fitbit thinks I burned so far that day. I always enter my workouts, that I'm actually going to enter, that is, into Fitbit. Running and walking I don't usually bother to enter since the Fitbit is already counting those for me.0

If you run, though, doesn't it burn more calories than walking?0

Good question as I've been wondering the same! X0

I've had a FitBit One for some time, but I just started using MFP for tracking. If I do something like a yoga class, I know to log it at MFP, but I'm confused about tracking my walks, not to mention I have no clue how to categorize them; I walk the dog, but when she's not sniffing around, we walk at a good clip, and I live in a very hilly area (FitBit says I've done the equivalent of 15-25 flights of stairs depending on my route.) Most of the time, I set the FitBit to record these walks as an activity, and they show up in my activities on my tracker there. I like doing this, because it gives me the distance I've covered. Should I also log these at MFP? Never mind figuring out what kind of 'walk' to call it!0

From what I've been able to tell, Fitbit can somewhat differentiate between light activity (walking) and strenuous activity (running) since it provides an output of 'very active' minutes. Those usually match up closely to when I am purposeful walking on my lunch break or when I run at the gym. It does also seem to catch the stretches of time when I'm walking my dogs and we are going at a good clip and ignore the times when they are sniffing. I don't log any exercise in MFP anymore and just use the Fitbit estimates and it's contributed to the last 3 lbs of weight loss for me since Christmas.0
