I was a 165 lb. girl last year. I just turned 18 and I wanted to lose weight so that I could look good for all the guys I started noticing that weren't noticing me because I was fat (I'm 5' 6"). I started walking, swimming, and the like and saw NO change within the first 4 months, then finally I began losing one pound a week. I got down to 140, hit a plateau, and began seriously restrictive calorie counting for two weeks because I wanted to hit 130. I hit 135 a month later, then quit the dieting because I was feeling weak, shaky, and downright horrible because I wasn't getting enough calories.
After that, my weight jumped up to 145, and after reassessing my calorie counting, I joined My Fitness Pal, figured out my caloric need, and started again. I'm happy to say that after 2 months, I've lost 8 lbs. and am back on my way to being a skinny 130!
Every day (except for Sunday) I walk 4 mph. I also do an incredibly helpful Youtube workout Pilates video (am I allowed to drop names on here?) that has given me INCREDIBLE stomache, back, arm, and leg tone. I've also started strength training, push-ups, and lifting weights in addition to cardio and have gained muscle weight since I started!!
I've only got 2 months to go before I reassess my weight, so support and motivation would be appreciated!!!

My advice to all those weight-losers (not calling anyone a loser, mind you) out there would be this: Strength training is important, possibly more important than cardio because it'll give you tone when you're at the end of your weight-loss journey. Don't freak out if the scale jumps up when you start; muscle weights MORE than fat. Just put on clothes and you'll notice that they're looser than before despite the fact that you've "gained" weight.
Also, calorie counting is important. My weight went up because I thought I was eating less than I really was, and only after I began calorie counting did I realize how much more I was really eating. It's 80% diet, and 20% exercise. Just look at the Japanese people. Most of them are as skinny as rails. Do you think it's because they work out like bears? Nope; it's because they have a diet of fish, rice, and hardly any sugar or dessert. I would say that most Americans (or at least me) are overweight because we eat too much.0 -
I'm in the same boat.... At my highest weight, I had 150 to lose. I've lost 50ish and would be content with another 50. I can't even picture myself beyond that.0
