Terrible Pain...

So I was just sitting here at work when all of the sudden I felt this stabbing pain in my stomach-Right above my bellybutton. Almost like it's gas, but it hurts so bad to press on my stomach...Then I was talking to my husband on the phone and we got to laughing about something and it hurt so bad I could hardly breathe. Anyone know what this is? Is it serious?!?

I know I felt pretty bad pain in my stomach when I had gastritis (basically a hole being burned in your stomach but before it's an ulcer). I got it due to the high motrin I was on after my c-section. I really affected my stomach. I would be in pain where I felt like I couldn't take a breathe without it hurting bad.

I took some over the counter type medication and was told to watch spicy, acidic and vinegary foods for awhile. I still have to be careful about how much of that stuff I eat at once.

It could be the start of something like that. Have you been on any meds or has anything happenend recently that could cause this?

If nothing else just get it checked out. Can't hurt, you know what I mean??

Probably gas but if there is any indication of sickness (fever,nausea..etc) don`t mess around with it,get to a doctor or emergency room if it is severe.

My husband had gastritis and a preforated ulcer earlier this year - he actually started vomiting blood and passed out, and ended up in the ER. It was scary! His case was due to stress from work, etc. They put him on acid blockers after sealing the uclers. I don't remember him complaining of sharp pain, but he did often have a stomach ache and popped tums like popcorn :noway: Trying to get him on the healthy bandwagon now...stubborn boy :grumble:

I have experienced years of irritable bowel syndrome and horrible gas pains. Went to the ER a couple times to be told it was nothing.

I had a perforated ulcer (hole eaten through the stomach from acid).

I always wondered how I would know if something was seriously wrong, because the IBS pain was so incredibly painful, but I am here to tell you that if you have a perf'ed ulcer, you know it. I told my husband to take me to the ER cause an internal organ has ruptured. I was close enough.

Stomach pains... right up under the rib cage. Way higher than we imagine.
Belly button... more intestinal. Walking helps to move the gas bubbles through. They can be soooo painful.

BTW, signs of perforated (or bleeding) ulcer: nausea, vomiting, vomiting blood, blood in the stools. (The main symptoms are the blood from one end or the other. I only had nausea.) If you are still experiencing pain, go get checked out by the doc.
