How to be more comfortable and confident at the gym?

I want to start working out but I'm not that comfortable at the gym. I live in a small town so it's mostly guys that go to our local gym. There's only ever a few girls. I'm fine when I'm warming up and getting in cardio, but when I go to build muscle and tone I become very self conscious. Any advice? Thank you!

First thing you need is an actual work out program. Seriously, if you go in knowing what you need to do that will give you confidence. It will also give your workout purpose and will keep you progressing and you will be able to actually track your progress.

    2. Know how to perform every lift in the program that you decide to choose.

    3. Bring a log book and log your exercises, you can do this on your phone as well.

    4. Dress comfortably, bring your ear buds, put on some great tunes and get to work.

And the most important part, have fun.

In most places, the lifting area is dominated by men. You will be surprised how many people are willing to help when you are getting into weight lifting. Remember, you are there for you, not anyone else. When I first started lifting, I was extremely awkward and uncomfortable. I did things wrong in the beginning, and other gym members helped me out with form and provided me with advice. Don't let anyone or anything hold you back from your goals. Good luck!

Just keep going- the only way you get more comfortable and less self conscious is by continuing to do the thing.

First off, there's no such thing as tone unless you're a mandolin.

Second, just do your thing. People will either not give a crap, or will think positively about you. Most probably the former over the latter.
