I have menopause and have gained 25 pounds. Never had to worry about my stomach before but now it is aweful! Is there something special I need to be doing for this problem? Been on Adkins, lost 8.5 pounds. Can't hang with that. Trying to watch calories now.

In my experience - exercise makes the biggest difference. Much more so than when I was younger. Menopause is the pits!! We need exericse to prevent bone loss, muscle loss and to keep our metabolism from dropping, but also I find weight control impossible without it (hence my username ;) ).

I think sugar and other fast digesting carbs are also more problematic now. I don't eat low carb, but I am much more conscience of where the carbs come from now. I saw the term "slow carb" used on here once and I think it's a good one. Slow digesting carbs vs. fast digesting, for the most part. I guess that probably goes back to the drop in metabolism.

I'm not saying calories are not important, they are, of course. But for me it's just not as easy as it was when I was younger when focusing on calories alone.

It's all about the deficit! I've lost at least half of my weight after menopause!
I work out 7-8 hours a week and eat back 2/3 of my exercise calories.
I weigh 125-127 at 5'2". Ultimately, I'd like to get down to 120.

53 years old here and down 49 lbs. in 15 months. I'm still in my menopausal year and had horrific hot flashes this summer. The lack of energy and the flashes sometimes made exercising an incredible chore, but I persevered, and the weight came off. Calorie deficit and exercise will do it over time. Might take longer, and might not be as easy, but it will work eventually.
