Breakfast ideas

I need new ideas for breakfast. I am burned out on my oatmeal or toast and need something else.

Difficulty:
No calcium because I take a high potency iron pill. I get plenty of calcium in with lunch and dinner so I don't want to move my pill to another time.

No eggs or egg beaters. I really enjoy my hard cooked eggs as a bedtime snack and don't want to overdo it

Around 200 calories. Macro mix is not important.

My goto is plain Greek yogurt with nuts and fresh fruit. Packs an awesome protein punch in my day!

Turkey sausage with an egg white (that way you are really eating a whole egg)
    Juice smoothies
Dry cereals with a side of fruit (Multi grain Cherrios with a side of strawberries)
    Granola with fruit
Small pancakes, made the night before and reheated, with 2 slices of cooked bacon and fresh fruit ( I like to put fruit in my pancakes)

Unfortunately I can't have calcium with my iron pill.

Hmmm, I like the idea of making and freezing pancakes. I'd rather not cook every morning but that is a good idea to do them ahead.

No calcium and no eggs makes it harder to come up with ideas.

Have you tried simply potatoes, the shredded hash browns sold in the refrigerator section of grocery stores? 80 calories a serving. I use a Pam-type spray in a non-stick skillet instead of cooking them in oil. Thin sliced bacon paired with the hash browns keeps it under 200 calories, or some thick slices of sweet potato (or both). I usually nuke the sweet potato then slice off however much I want to eat at the time and brown it lightly in the same skillet. A teaspoon of butter keeps both potatoes and sweet potato from being too dry. In my case I usually have 300 calories for breakfast so do add an egg or an egg scrambled with egg beaters.

If you can handle a tiny bit of calcium you might try 2 tablespoons of PB2 mixed with a couple tablespoons of greek yogurt spread on sliced apples. Really yummy. This would leave 50 calories for lite bread to toast if you like that.

I make a scrabbled egg and 2 small pancakes each night for my bonus child's breakfast the next morning. It's easy for my husband to heat up and give her since they are up earlier than me. And it's healthier than her drinking a Danimals Smoothie and eating sugary cereals.

I'm going to try those Simply potatoes. Do you have to add seasonings to them?

Peanut butter on sliced apple, canadian bacon (1 slice = 20 cal) on toast. When I make oatmeal, I stir in 1 or 2 tablespoons of PB2 to give it a protein punch. Mostly I have egg whites or egg beaters with low fat cheese -- I have to have a high protein meal in the mornings, especially when I eat early.
FYI - If you're taking an iron supplement, try to have an orange or other vit c containing food or supplement with it -- it helps your body absorb the iron better.

LOL, that is why I am having trouble coming up with ideas and needed to call on the collective brain of MFP!

I like the idea of those potatoes and some bacon! That is something else I can do in bulk and reheat single servings in the morning. (if you hadn't guessed, I am not a morning person. The only reason I eat breakfast at all is because one of my medications has to be taken with food to be absorbed. It also prevents nausea from the iron pill).

I tried to but my carbs got too high for the day. I do take a multivitamin so there is some "C" in my system at breakfast.

Cream of wheat or grits? (Referring to eating it plain, no cheese or eggs... Although you could probably add sausage or bacon or something if you wanted to). :) Or how about turkey slices with tomato on toast? The tomato would give you some vitamin C to help with absorption of the iron supplement.

My favorite go-to breakfast is an egg white omelet with a tablespoon of salsa mixed in. Add two turkey sausage links and I'm good to go.

given the preference to keep out "typical" breakfast foods (calcium and eggs) there's nothing that says you have to eat "breakfast foods" at all...whole grain english muffin with PB and banana...multigrain wrap with thin sliced turkey, and whatever else you like (broccoli slaw, avocado, lettuce), i actually think the panera cranberry turkey flatbread is a great breakfast (even though its lunch), something similar, warmed turkey, spinach, and cranberry on an whole grain wrap or pita, savory waffles are pretty easy to make ahead of time, freeze and then pop in the toaster, since they are savory you do not have to worry about syrup or fruit on top, you can just grab it and go (savory-waffles with bits of bacon green onion and cheese, waffles with turkey and cranberry, waffles with sausage and sage) you can check on here or google for some waffle batters that arent as sweet as normal and go great with savory items.

Thank you so much for suggesting the Simply Potatoes! My store was out of the plain ones so I bought a bag of the frozen hashbrowns. My store also had a special on bacon (buy one, get one free). This morning I had a very yummy breakfast of 2 slices of bacon and 3 oz of hashbrowns fried in a little of the bacon fat. With coffee and vitamins I ended up with 209 calories which is right in my wheelhouse!

I really struggled to think of calcium free breakfasts - I have to take iron each day too but mine just needs to be taken with juice an hour before dairy-containing foods so I'm luckier in that respect. I like cold bacon & tomato sandwiches for breakfast sometimes, or a protein bar and banana. I also sometimes make dried fruit & seed energy bars - there are loads of easy recipes online with both lower/higher calorie versions depending on what you need.
