Hello all!

I am in search of a good/reliable fairly inexpensive heart rate monitor. I have a timex set, but I'm having LOTS of trouble getting the strap to pick up my heart rate. I'm on the petite side - not sure if this is the issue?

Thoughts? Comments?

Do you wet the poles of the heart rate monitor before putting it on? This may help!!!

I use a Polar F4 with a strap & it works great, but i usually put a bit of water onto the back of the chest strap before starting a workout. I had a Mio previously but it didn't have a chest strap & you had to constantly press buttons on it to get it to take a reading. It wasn't so accurate.

I have a Timex that cost about 70 bucks....it works like a champ. I do agree that you have to wet the poles before putting it on.....good luck!

I have the Timex also and love it. I do wet it also or I have problems with it reading. Good luck, hope you find something that works for you.

Heart Rate Monitor? There is an app for that; seriously and several. These are simple to use as all you do is place your finger on the camera lens gently and then it measures your heart rate. How accurate are they? While I haven't tested them all I have 2 and their were very accurate. I have a Blood Pressure Monitor that I regularly use and it also give the heart rate (BPM) and they were exact or extremely close.

I did try wetting the poles - not much luck. I wrote Timex this morning to let them know about the trouble I was having and they've already responded that they would send me a new set - perhaps it's defective? Kudos to them for delivering good customer service. Decu, I was looking for something that would give continuous readings so I can try to count my calories burned based on average heart rate. Thanks for the info though!
