Hi All,
Just looking for some advice as I'm going at this weight loss thing alone!
I've been focused and dedicated for a week now and have gone from eating anything and doing nothing to eating healthy (so I think) and hitting the gym. So here's the a rough idea of what I've been eating:
B: coffee with skimmed milk, hard boiled egg
L: grilled chicken breast, salad, hard boiled egg
grilled chicken breast with green vegetables
I've been constantly drinking water throughout the day.
I've started working out with a trainer at the gym so an hour 3/4 times a week.
I need to loose 5 stones to be at a healthy weight so would appreciate advice from people that have the knowledge to tell me if this is the way to go?
Thanks )

Your not eating anywhere near enough... I dont know how you have energy to work out without any carbs either Please raise ur calories to at least 1200, ur body needs it to function properly0
-
Thanks for the advice. I did ask the doctor for advice how to do this but he wasn't interested at all so I'm going in blind.
Surprisingly I have loads of energy bit that might be my determinations pushing through.0 -
You can feel fine for a long time on low calories, but that doesnt mean everything is ok. Start logging everything you eat, stay between 1200-1500/day and eat ur frut and veggies0
-
You will crash and burn with such low calories and bland dull food
Eat everything, weigh your food and log accurately...cook foods you love, use the recipe builder to work out how to lower calories....widen your diet...increase your calories and fuel your body properly
It's not about deprivation, it's about balance ...a lifelong commitment to yourself0 -
You will soon get bored of chicken, salad and boiled eggs!
My advice is to find some pals on here with similar stats and goals and look in their diaries for meal ideas.
How many cals does MFP say to eat?0 -
Around 800 per day0
-
-
No way it's below 1200 without exercise
What's your age, weight, height, activity level without workouts and goal weight loss per week?0 -
Sorry I miss read, that's how much I have been eating. MFP is saying 1200.
I'm 32, 5ft 4, I work in an office so fairly inactive without going to the gym, hoping to loose 3-4 lbs a week.0 -
Oh and weight is 189 lbs0

I've lost 13st since May 2013 so I have a little bit of hands on experience at this. As you are using stones for your weight I'm guessing you are from the UK although I could be wrong. I am also from the UK, you could add me as a friend then you can go through my food diary which may give you some ideas. I would certainly say this, when we first start dieting we want the weight gone and we want it gone now. Many people fall into the pit of going completely overboard and cutting their intake drastically which in many cases will just lead to fatigue and apathy and eventually failure. You would be surprised how many calories you can actually eat and still lose weight. If I where you and I was working out, then I would be starting out at almost double the amount of calories you are eating at the moment and monitoring your progress. Eat a varied diet, sugar and carbs are not always your enemies unless you have some kind of rare illness that makes them so. They can and should still be in your diet, the aim of the game is to be able to maintain once you lose the weight and not feel like you are on a diet for the rest of your life. You also need some patience 5 stone (70lb) isn't going to drop off in a month or so, you should be realistic and realise that it could take a lot longer than you really would like it to. Enjoy your food and exercise, enjoy life, best of luck to you. :-)0

Put your details in to here, http://iifym.com/iifym-calculator/
3-4lb per week is not a reasonable expectation. You should be eating about 1500 calories per day.0 -
Ok do not set your goal, even in your head, to more than 2lbs a week...all weight loss is a mixture of fat, water and muscle ...the trick is to maintain as much lean body mass as possible, preserving as much muscle as possible losing muscle means your weight loss and maintenance will become much harder as you will have a lower calorie level requirement
As you lose weight you lower your targeted goal weight ...there's a scale somewhere but over 75lb to lose is ok for 2lb a week and under 14 to lose is 0.5lb roughly ...perhaps someone can link it here
So your activity is sedentary and then you add your workouts, double click on the calories allowed from MFP database and cut them in half ...the database massively overestimates calorie burns
Then eat that ..your basic calories PLUS your exercise calories
And you will lose weight ...guaranteed if you weigh and log all your food accurately ...you can then adjust how much of your exercise calories you eat based on your loss
Good luck0 -
Thanks for all your help0

With 50lb to lose, 1.5-2lb loss a week is plenty... 3-4lb is not realistic, this isn't biggest loser!0
-
I agree that 3-4 pounds isn't realistic for most people. There are ways to achieve that safety, but it requires a lot of exercise. 1-2 pounds is hard enough, but more realistic.0
-
Seriously, how long did it take you to put on that 50 pounds you're trying to lose? You can't expect to walk into the forest 5 miles and get out in 1.0
-
I don't know you or your dietary preferences, but I would die of boredom if I ate a diet that repetitive. Even if grilled chicken breast is your favorite food in the whole wide world, it will get boring eventually (plus, then your favorite food is ruined for you). There are other good sources of protein besides chicken and eggs (google, or search the forums here).
If you intend to keep those 5 stone away and stay at a healthy weight after you're "done", eat in a way that you can imagine sticking to for the rest of your life. Of course, you can increase calories when going into maintaining, but eating nothing but chicken and veggies for a few months and then going back to eating the same way you used to eat when gaining isn't going to make you maintain. It's going to make you gain the weight back.0
