Hello all,
Im 21 yo and starting back up in my workout routine. I gained weight and need to lose it. The only thing thats really holding me back I guess is the fact that everytime I walk into a gym I get people staring at me and its embarrassing and distracting. I just wish I can go without being profiled or thinking that I'm being judged in some way. idk maybe its in my head but its how i feel.
Any suggestions?

I feel like that sometimes...but, what I do in those moments is turn my music up loud and tell myself "everyone's gotta start somewhere". It helps me concentrate on my workout (and awesome music) and I forget people are even around me.0

When I first started going to the gym, that was one of my concerns as well. The stares! The more I went, the more I realized that nobody cared that much. Surely you'll have people who will look at you and such, I've been there, but in the end, people go there to better themselves and not spend their whole time watching you. The way I see it is that you are there making an effort to get better in a way many others don't do and that on its own is a commendable job!! We all start somewhere so now going to the gym doesn't phase me. I just put on my music, focus on what I need to do and less people watching. The more I watch other people's actions, the more focused I'll be on that and not on my workout. That's how I got through it!0

I guess I just need to find my zone and phase everything and everyone else out. Thanks for your help!0

Most people at the gym are too self-involved and on a time schedule to watch other people.0

I started going to the gym and I've lost two stone and after speaking to people there when I had the same worry they were so supportive and understand that everyone has to start somewhere! A few even told me they had the up most respect for me by actively trying to lose weight! X0

I thought the same when I started out but after a while you realise that no one actually cares about anyone other than themselves in the gym (myself included) so it's a mental thing you need to get past.0
