Weight Lifting advice for the newbie please!

Hello there - My name is Jessica and I just rejoined MFP. I turned 40 a few months ago and am committed to becoming healthy. Turning 40 has been a much needed wake up call! I've always done cardio as a my main source of exercise but have been reading a lot lately about many members' successes with weight lifting. Any advice for a beginner is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I'm no wear in shape or form knows a lot about weight lifting, but I do know you need to build strength enable for you to do this. So maybe work on your upper body strength and work down. Fortunately for us there's Internet that we can pretty much find things out. Or even ask Siri0

You can register on bodybuilding.com and there you will find workout plans and even explanations on proper technique so you don't injure yourself.0

New Rules of Lifting (there are several variations on the book but they're all complete lifting plans), Strong Lifts, Strong Curves, Starting Strength... those are a few very good plans you could look into for direction. Some of those you should be able to find at your local library so you can check them out before committing. Strong Lifts is a free program you can find online and with any of them, make sure you have proper form before you add weight. There are groups here on MFP for all of these but you'll have to decide which program is a good place for you to start.
I started with Strong Lifts because it was just a few exercises that I had to learn. After I felt comfortable with my form I moved on to other programs. I did get a trainer to help me make sure my form was good just because I wanted to make sure I didn't hurt myself0
