Can someone explain why the sodium levels are so high? I'm not getting to half of the suggested amount although I think I'm eating a healthy diet. What kind of foods would I expect to find it in naturally

most people I know have trouble staying under the sodium level, myself included. I am not a doctor or a scientist but if you aren't taking in the recommended level from MFP it is probably ok.

i cannot see what your sodium is set to but typically if you are only relying on the food database then there are a LOT of entries that do not include sodium. People add to the database and don't bother to do it properly.
When you add a food and it shows zero sodium then it is 'probably' wrong.

You don't want a high level of sodium, you want to stay under the sodium amount. We need some for our hearts to work properly (and other parts of the body) but most people have way too much in the standard diet.

If you're WAY low and are craving salt or feel lightheaded, etc - just add salt to your food.

2,300 mg is the recommended maximum allowance. It's not a minimum. For many people, the maximum allowance is actually 1,500 mg. The typical MINIMUM is actually 500 mg, although some adults can survive on a mere 114 mg a day.

Also, there's no way to capture salt added at the table. If I create a recipe that includes a measurable amount of salt, I include it, but anything that comes out of the salt shaker isn't captured.

IMHO, its not a big worry unless you have hypertension or some medical problem. Don't overdo it, and drink enough water to flush it out. Your kidney's are pretty darn good and regulating sodium levels to what they should be.

Well yeah, you would add it to your diary yourself. The program also doesn't know if you add ketchup to something, you have to put it in the computer.
