Hello! I'm new to these forums after being recommended here. I've heard people on these forums are very supportive and friendly :)

I have a 5 stone (70 pounds) weight loss goal and I have 7-8 months to do it. I'm 210-220 currently. I have all the free time in the world until September so now's the time to change

Any advice or tips to get me started?

Hi Jessica, and welcome to MFP! Anyone should feel free to add me if looking for friends.

Good luck in your journey! The best advice I could give is to be patient and stay focused on the fundamentals. Trying to take short cuts has sabotaged quite a few people from what I've seen.

  • I'll take the slow and consistent route! I have a long time until I start University (September) and I have nothing to do then, so now is the time to change :)

Take it easy, don't make loads of drastic changes at once or you'll feel overwhelmed. Set some small goals and look at how you can make small changes without missing out.

I started by cutting bits out of my usual meals. So I'd swap burger in a bun with fries, for a burger without the bun and a large portion of salad on the side, no fries. Instead of a tuna cheese salad baguette, I'd have a tuna and cheese salad. My latte became an americano and I threw out the cooking oil so I'd have to use the grill instead.

Once you start to lose weight you'll naturally be spurred on to make bigger changes as you'll feel great.

Making smarter choices and smart life changes. The biggest thing is accounting for everything that goes in your mouth. if you eat it, log it. And do it for you first and foremost!
  • Are there any good places to create/find weight loss "plans"? Like how much exercise to do per day, what exercises to do, what to eat etc? :)
