I've only eat half my calories for the day so far but I am already over by 1 on my fiber. that's a good thing right? Or should I be cutting back on food with high fiber? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

I feel like you can never eat too much fiber. I always go over on my intake, BUT be careful bc it can give you an upset stomach. Eat as much as your body can handle. If you find that your stomach is sensitive to it, then cut back, otherwise you'll be fine.0

I say the more fiber the better!0

I think MFP's suggestion is actually low, I'm almost positive we should be getting between 25-30 grams of fiber per day. Just remember to make sure your water is on target with this, otherwise it wont help keeping you "going"0

I feel like you CAN eat too much fiber -- it plugs me up. But the doctors say it shouldn't if you drink sufficient water (not fluids -- water!)
I do, but still the heavy vegetable fibers constipate me. I don't know that my experience is typical, though. I'm more regular when I restrict the amount and types of fibers than eating tremendous quantities of roughage.0 -
The more fiber the better- and the higher % of your carbs that come from fiber- even better!0

Fiber is good for you.It helps with cleansing your body naturally.:happy:0

I try to at least get 25 grams a day and sometimes I go over that. As long as you are drinking water you will be fine.0

I find the fibre recommendation is way too low on here. Just keep eating lots of it and don't worry about the numbers.
The book I'm reading (YOU on a Diet) recommends 30 grams of fibre a day and this says around 15 grams for a 1200 calorie diet so that's only half what these doctors are saying. They also say eating lots of fibre in the morning will make you less hungry all day.
If you're not used to eating much though, you may have to step it up slowly cuz it can affect the plumbing until you're used to more of it0 -
I agree. Based on all of my reading and working with nutritionists, etc. 25-30g per day has always been recommended for me, a woman (men are I believe around 35g). So I've always found MFP low on this for some reason. The healthier you eat, you will probably hit this (lots of fruits and veggies), but there are a lot of supplemented food these days in the grocery store too, like Flatout (flatbreads), all the different brands of whole wheat sandwich thins, peas are really high, popcorn is too, and you can always add in ground flax seeds.
I don't have a sensitive stomach, but if you are not currently eating in this range, see how it goes. I don't have any problems in this area, but I've heard of people who do!0 -
The more fiber the better. The amount MFP suggests for me is far less than what medical science suggests.
From the Harvard School of Public Health: Most adult women should shoot for over 20 grams of fiber a day; men should shoot for over 30 grams. Great sources are whole fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads and breakfast cereals, and all manner of beans.

Thanks everyone! I'm gonna keep on eating that fiber. Luckily I don't usually have a sensative stomache so I think I can handle it.0

you can eat too much fibre. I was under that illusion too! I have a very sensitive digestive system/bowel (nice i know!) so I monitored my fibre very closely and made sure I ate loads!!!
NOW following a docs appointment I was told my "issues" were because i'm eating too much fibre, I've cut right down (apart from today dont look at my diary!) and my insides are much happier :-) x0
