Hi All,
I have done some research but my head hurts ;/ so I want to ask for your opinions/recommendations.
I am looking for a HRM/chest strap/armband that could measure my heart rate during the exercising session and be compatible with a good application for Android, which - in turn - would use that data to establish heart rate zones, calculate calories used and all other analysing. I don't want the HRM to wake me up in the morning, measure my steps, sleep, mood, whatever else, just be an accurate heart rate 'reader and transmitter' if you like. And I would appreciate feedback on Android apps to work with the thing too :)
Any thoughts?

Pretty much any bluetooth low energy HR strap should work with a wide variety of apps (some free ... some pay). Polar makes the H6 and H7, Wahoo has a line of BLE straps, Mio has optical arm worn straps that are accurate .... it all depends what you want to pay.

Wahoo has it's own app ... so does Polar ... both free. MapMyFitness requires a pay upgrade to use HRMs. Digifit has a one time upgrade (I think it was under $10 when I bought it) for HRM integration.

When you say "heart rate zones" are you referring to the "fat burning zone"? If so, ignore that labeling. You burn more fat and more total calories at higher intensity. All calorie counts are estimates and accuracy varies based on your app and activity.
  • The 60beat app has easy to read zones, I use it with a Sync HR soft strap, works flawlessly on my iPhone 4S. My daughters S4 froze during her first workout so your results may vary.

I would recommend finding the application that has the features you want and then buying the strap that is compatible (Bluetooth LE, ANT+, Polar compatible) with the application.
