Possible hip flexor strain

Options
I registered for the Disney Star Wars Half Marathon back in July, and I don't mind saying that the registration was incredibly expensive. I've already booked my flight ad hotel, and the race is on Sunday. However, I have been experiencing pain in my left hip flexor for 3 weeks now with no end in sight. I don't want to miss the race that I have trained so hard for and spent so much money on, especially since Disney doesn't believe in refunds. What should I do?

Try doing some yoga style stretching targeting the hip flexors, hopefully it will start to feel better

Since your race is on Sunday, try "hip opener" yoga stretches.

And afterwards, you should see a doctor for an accurate diagnosis, and a physiotherapist to work on recovery.

Be smart. Over the years I've strained both hip flexors (separate incidents). It took well over 6 months of layoff to heal each. It was over a year before I was able to squat the same weight as well. It sucked. A lot.

Self-Myofacial Release, Stretch, take some anti-inflammatory's and REST. You shouldn't de-train between now and then, and even if you did slightly, what's better; being able to run in the marathon but possibly not place as high or be so sore that you're watching from the crowd?

If hip opening exercises don't help relieve some pain (also use a roller) then it might be worthwhile to talk to a doctor or physiotherapist about it.

Ouch, I know how that feels. I tore my hip flexor muscle on new years eve and its still sore. I do halfs also. My first impulse is to do the half and suffer, but if it tears you will be in a massive amount of pain, I was on tranquiliser pain meds andin bed icing mythigh in bed for the first 3 days if this year. Im still having physio but its still sore. I also tore my calf muscle last year, so know what its like to overdo it. Anyway, either way let me know what you chose to do.

I hear ya! I've been experiencing mild hip pain since Sept and kept thinking it would ease off itself. It's now quite acute and I'm having to go to the doc.
Maybe seek some professional advice about what's best. You don't want to miss your race but you don't want to do any long term damage either.
I hope you find a good solution.

Hell, if you've pulled the muscle, stretching is only going to do more damage.
