I'm 20, almost 21, and since a breakup in high school, I've doubled my pant size!!
I work out at least 30 mintues everyday, and this website is helping me montior my eating too!
I could use a motivation buddy too!0 -
yes I am back in college and trying to lose weight, but I am 52 years old and working full time. It is still a struggle with exams and holidays coming on.
Your rapid weight gain is probably due to stress and not exercising enough because you are sitting in one place studying.
Remember at your age you probably have a great metabolism and you can make up for extra caolories by working out. You may be mentally tired after a day of classes and studying, but you are not physically tired. At least that is what I tell myself. You will feel a lot better with regular aerobic exercise and do better in your studies.0 -
yeah I'm 20 and i've been overweight ever since elementary school I'm active and I workout but It doesn't seem to do anything. I need support when it comes to my eating and partying habits. These are my downfalls. In college I feel like this is my time to enjoy myself so binging on food and alcohol is a way of life that I'm trying to balance. But I know that if i want to lose weight I'll have to cut these out. I need a lot of support. Losing weight has been in my top priorities for a while Please Help0

Hey all~ I am a sophomore in college and I don't want to admit it but I gained weight in my freshman year but am on the road to being back on track! It is so emotional for me to be away from home and under soo much stress! I would love a support group with other people in college!!0

I am graduating on Dec 12 and I have to say i have put on a lot of weight! It is so hard when you want to go out and socialize all the time which usually happens at bars or restaurants !!!0

I've been large since mid-teens, but college brought an additional 20 pounds of myself to me. I am now in grad-school and finally ready (and really willing) to shed the weight. I am only 7 pounds away from my pre-college weight (mildly exciting).

I'm 23 and am just finishing up my first semester. School can always add a lot of stress which in turn adds weight.

Have you looked on ebay, Amazon, or half.com? I was about to save loads on generic textbooks like that by shopping ahead on websites. You can always email your prof and ask if the previous edition would be suitable for the class (most of my undergrad profs didn't care at all... most of them actually sympathized with my trying to save a few dollars here and there).0 -

I am excited though. I went to put on my belt the other day and slide it right past the last notch...I have to cut a new one to last until payday. I'm almost down a size, but not quite there yet.0 -

yea...I've found it cheap on ebay but they are international versions and I've heard horror stories about those. Amazon has it for $98 i think...but that's still insane for a used book.0 -
I'm 18, and a freshman in college.
I've been fat all my life, and finally decided at the start of the summer that I was going to lose the weight. I've been pretty successful, but I'm still a work in progress. My parents went goggle-eyed when I came home at Thanksgiving. I hadn't seen much change in myself but they were like "ZOMG you've lost so much weight!"
I just try to eat healthy and work out every day. Having a gym pass rocks! I'm at the physical high of my life--I don't have much longer (comparatively speaking) where my metabolism (as screwed up as it was from a life of bad food choices and little exercise) has the kick of youth. I'm determined to take advantage of it and get this weight off. And I like having a strong, useful, hot body.0 -

Also, because I live in the dorms, I do not have a scale to weigh myself. Is that a bad thing? Or should I not know what my weight is all the time. I feel that I might get obsessed with checking the scale rather than working out and dieting. And if I do not lose the weight that I want, I might get upset or disappointed and start to get less motivated.
What does everyone else think?0 -

No, actually, HERE is what bugs me more: I want to weigh my food (mostly meat) but I can't find one of those tiny scales. Like, telling me to base meat off of a deck of cards never works well, unless I have a deck of cards right at hand. Then of course there is the "palm of your hand," but I'm never sure how much hand constitutes as the palm. Knuckle joints? What about thickness? My roommate's walked in on me with a slice to ham on my hand once :laugh:

When I came in as a freshie, I weighed about 155 lbs and I am 5'0, body fat around 30%. I didn't know how to work out or eat, but I knew I didn't want to gain the freshmen 15, so I hit the gym HARD. Of course I did everything wrong for the first couple months, but when I actually began to do some research, I shaped up my training and it actually brought me to my current major (Exercise, Sport and Health Education). I am now 133 lbs and around 20% body fat..still 5'0 though. I practiced self control in the cafeteria, learned great time management to fit workouts in between class and work, and abstained from drinking for all but a couple months (and now I don't even like alcohol). It has taken a lot of trial and error to find a training regime that is challenging enough to elicit changes in my body but lenient enough to change with my schedule. I have also had to become easier on myself--I never hate myself for gaining weight or going over my calories or missing a workout. I realize it's a part of life and it's easily fixable. The most important part of this lifestyle is accepting your body and realizing that you should be kind to it and appreciate it, and then change it in a healthy way. Don't obsess over what the scale says. I have gone down to 129lbs and up to 144 lbs, in the past few years, and I never let it take me over. I just moved in a direction I thought was healthier and more conducive to my training--and sometimes that direction was up on the scale. We all have different goals, but I think we should all keep in mind that, as women, our bodies are constantly changing, never reaching an equilibrium. It's normal to gain some weight in college--we're still developing. 18 is a legal adult but not entirely a physiological one. So appreciate your body for how cool it is and be kind to yourself while you challenge it to adapt to new activities. :flowerforyou:0 -
I just needed to check in because I am sooo in denial about the fact that I am not in school anymore! I finished grad school May of '07 and I miss school so much!
Would be happy to chat with anybody that needs help navigating college though. I did six years of it, so I'm kind of a pro. I actually managed to lose through my college years (some years better than others). That was not for a lack of beverages by the way!! :drinker:

Have you tried Target? I was there today (getting Christmas lights!) and I saw one for about $15.
Hello all! I am a 5th year college student turning 23 on Monday! And I think I'm going to have a healthy birthday party. First of all, I'm going to have an activity to keep us occupied instead of scarfing food and drinks: Karaoke Revolution on my PS2! (It'll also save money as opposed to going out) Then I'm making my own low-cal cake by using a can of pumpkin rather than eggs, oil, and milk (Hungry Girl recipe--SO DELICIOUS!) and we're going to make our own tasty drinks with seltzer, fruit juice, and optional alcohol. And since it's my birthday party, everyone has to be healthy! Ha!
See? A holiday doesn't have to be fattening! I love this website and all of you guys/gals! I would've never had the motivation, or even the idea, to do this before I found this place! I'M SO EXCITED TO TURN 23 AT THE LOWEST WEIGHT I'VE BEEN AT SINCE HIGH SCHOOL!!0 -

I think that its best not being able to weigh yourself bc you will become obsessed with it!!! and the number doesnt matter smaller jeans and better looking body matters!!! and im sure there is a gym at your school with a scale so you can check your weight once and a while.0
