Difficulty losing weight with Crohns?

Granted I'm not perfect, but I am having a hard time losing weight. Actually, I'm gaining. I have Crohns Disease with a intestinal stricture and arthritis. I'm pretty sure "things" are moving pretty slowly through the stricture, therefore making the digestion process take longer. Not currently on medication, blood work is good, trying to keep active, and eat decently(trying to be consistent with tracking the foods, etc.). I'm 43yo and need to lose about 40pds. Anybody else, with Crohns, having trouble losing weight? I also became certified as a Personal Trainer this past Summer so that I can help others with autoimmune issues. In my current state, I don't feel that I can "train". I know there are a million different reasons that I haven't lost in about year and things that I'm doing wrong, but just want to know if anyone else is having this problem?

I think it depends a lot on how your Crohns manifests. I don't have it, but my brother did. His manifested mostly in his upper GI, and he could only eat the blandest food you can imagine, so he had no trouble staying thin. The disease really took the enjoyment of food totally away for him.
I guess less solid foods are best for you with the stricture?0 -
I agree with the above poster it must depend, my best friend has Crohn's and she can't hardly put on weight if she tries. I would recommend discussing it with your doctor or gastroenterologist(sp?) and maybe they can recommend the optimal foods for your Crohn's in general as well as give some recommendations for weight loss0

What does your doc say about what you should and shouldn't eat? Have you told him/her you feel things are moving sluggishly?0

It depends. No two people with Crohn's are the same.
I've gained 111 lbs over the past 3 years from medications to manage my Crohn's. Before diagnosis and starting the medications, I was a whopping 95 lbs and couldn't gain a pound no matter how much I ate.
I now have a very difficult time losing weight.
Speak to your gastroenterologist and ask them if they can refer you to a registered dietician who specializes and or is familiar with IBD.

I have Crohn's and use a wheelchair due to arthritis and I'm 150 overweight. But I was overweight before I ever had Crohn's. What will they do for the stricture? I'm only on Humira now. Losing isn't easy for anyone, but having to limit the veggies and activity do make it slower for sure. My dr and nutritionist has me on 1000 calories a day which is NO food LOL I find the meal replacement shakes (dr supervised) really rst my tummy and make me feel full at the same time. Also persons with a disability are prone to depression in my opinion so that makes emotional eating a hazard.0

Thanks everyone. I don't think that I came across very clearly to my doctor about losing weight. He was more worried that I need to than that I am trying. I've managed to do nothing about my stricture. I don't want to remove anything until I have to as I feel it may cause more problems and the doctor is fine with that. Until I can talk to him again, I'm going to try to eat much smaller portions at a time to help with digestion. In the process of starting Humira.0
