Just remember at first its simple maths, Whats your daily recomended calorie intake? and then start from there try and get below it every day and then you can play about with it, make big or small changes, also try to do at least 20-40 mins of exercise daily if possible and you will see the results. hope it works out.0

zac775 has stated it perfectly, just be completely honest and log everything you eat. It will be hard to have a negative balance at first, but by logging everything you will see the better foods to eat and adjust your diet accordingly. This does not happen overnight, it took me about 3 weeks to figure some things out. Having friends on here help too to keep you motovated.0 -
There is way too much out there. Stick with us here at MFP and it will happen!! Just try to stay away from as much processed food as possible, do some exercise that you enjoy, and log your food with MFP. Step away from Google........0

One of the reasons you might be finding it hard is that as a man, you should be eating more than 1200 calories a day. The lowest you should go really is around 1500.0 -
There is a LOT of information out there. Some good, some bad. You don't need to know everything at first. The first and foremost piece of information you need to know is:
1. Eat fewer calories than you burn, over time, and you will lose weight.
Exercise helps burn more calories, meaning you can eat more and still have that deficit. Exercise also helps your health. As you get healthier and your body is in better shape, you will burn calories more efficiently.
These are the important things. As you go along in your path, you can pick up more information about macronutrient ratios, strength vs cardio, what meal size and timing works best for you, et cetera. But at the big picture level, it's very simple. Do not get lost in the maze of 1,000 different pieces of advice about how much celery you should eat or whatever.0 -
Thanks for the tips. I've had a lot of false starts and I find that its because I don't know what I'm doing or if what I'm doing is being done correctly.
