Just want to say I so love MFP!

Ok, so here's my dilema: I work out late most times, like here its 10p and I just burned like 500 calories. I was under my calories for the day when I started the work out and now MFP is saying I still need to consume 1,250 calories!! What the hell?? How am I supposed to do that? Will this affect my weight loss negatively if I'm not consuming the right amount of calories for my activity level on a daily basis? It's sooo late, do I try to eat some sliced apples and peanut butter to offset the big deficit or just leave it alone? I normally go to bed around midnight or later :-( so there's still a good two hour window for me.

Any advice and or tips are greatly appreciated

If you know you are going to work out...you should add the cals in throughout the day...so come night you dont have to worry about squeezing in excercise cals to eat back...and yes it will begin to affect you if you consistently have these deficits!!!!

You are going to get alot of opinions on this and here is mine.

On the days when you know you are going to work out late, plan those 500 calories into your daily allowance from the beginning.
In the beginning not eating those calories will not hurt you ... but eventually you will plateau and some of your initial weight loss will not be fat loss, but will also be muscle loss too.

I was training for my first half marathon in January and I did not lose a pound... couldnt figure out what I was doing wrong! I upped my calorie intake... and promptly lost weight again.

Do you eat any sort of pre workout snack? Maybe on days you know you're going to workout you could plan a couple extra healthy snacks. Walnuts are great for this because one serving is 200 calories and they're very good for you for a ton of reasons and they'll help you with your weight loss. I like to drink a glass of 2% milk after I run for the protein boost, and that adds some calories back as well. For tonight, I would just say eat if you're hungry, otherwise don't sweat it. :-)

it wont hurt this one time---but next time you are going to have to consume all your extra calories throughout the day and then go burn them off---but make sure you actually get to the gym and do that :)

You can always drink you calories with a Protein Shake or a Smoothie as well. That almost always happens to me twice a week , when i workout in the evening. :) Good luck.

If I were you I'd have that snack, but don't overeat tonight. Like someone else said, just plan ahead a little better!!! Today I was actually over my calories for a bit, so I got up and did a few minutes on the elliptical so I'd be just under again. I stay right around my net goal every day and lose pretty consistently.

Maybe you can do a high protein, high fat fitness shake with a banana added to it to cap your night off?

If anything, I would try to eat more during the days when you know you will be working out because to burn more you need to eat more for sure.

This is why I love MFP! Thanks so much for the advice and tips. It's just kinda hard because I can't always plan my schedule but you have definitely given me some ways to work past this so that it will not become a problem in the future.

    *Cheers to a healthier you!!*

I always workout late at night since I work 2nd shift. I eat throughout the day so I don't go to the gym and then have to eat back a bunch of calories. I do, however, make sure that I eat back as much of them as I can (and usually it is easy since going to the gym makes me hungry). Just eat until you feel full, drink some water and call it a day. :)

I struggle with this too bc I have to work out late evenings too bc there is no other time during the day that I can get it done. So it's late nights or not at all. In the beginning, I was just not eating my extra calories generated from the exercise and my weight loss plateaued even though I have a lot more weight to lose. So knowing I was going to work out in the evenings and knowing exactly what type of workout i will be doing, i eat the extra calories generated by the exercise throughout the day and I have gotten over the plateau and am losing at a faster rate. Bottom line is that in the beginning it won't affect you too bad, but eventually your body is going to become more and more resistant to letting go of the weight b/c it is trying to store it away bc you aren't eating enough.

I am sure there are many other opinions the contradict this, but this has been my personal experience in the weight loss journey. Hope it helps.
