I have heard sooo many different opinions on Crossfit.
And I'm literally just wondering what you fitness guys think of it?

The people I know who do it are in great shape. Unfortunately, they are insufferable. I swear my local Crossfit box is some kind of cult headquarters for a bizarre sect of bacon-worshipping, carb-fearing zealots. Bit of a turnoff.

I've heard that each box is very different. Some are run by people with little-to-no understanding of physiology, and have pushed workouts that are out and out dangerous.

There were also be sooo many different opinions on Crossfit from fitness guys...

I visited several boxes early on in my fitness safari and the only thing positive I really came away with was that at least people were doing Oly lifts again (my preferred type of weight lifting).

But other than that, I saw a lot of people doing a lot of stupid and dangerous things. IMO, Oly lifts for maximum reps for time is a really bad idea...these are complex movements to begin with...doing them for time and max reps is just dumb.

I also found the zealotry a bit overwhelming and derpy as well.

I ultimately never joined a box and decided that I would rather just do Oly-lifts the way they were intended to be done and train for actual sports rather than training to be the best at general exercising.

All that said, you're going to get a million different opinions from "fitness guys" too...if you want to do it then just go to an intro class and check it out...most boxes offer them for free or for a very nominal fee. No harm, no foul. It really will be the only way you know if it's for you or not. It tends to be a love it or hate it kind of thing...there's not much middle where CF is concerned.

Granted that in Fitness Land, there are many places where dubious people (e.a. Gyms and or Fitness Instructors) are just jumping at any new hype to make an extra buck, there are also many places where it is done properly, with the right equipment and the right instructor!

As long as I can remember, I hate joining classes, ANY classes at the gym. And trust me, I have been to many, many different gyms, coz I move around a lot, from country to country. I'm just more of a loner when working out. I feel awkward and the outsider when working out in a class. I tried aerobics, body pump, street dance, zumba, and then some, but I always felt awkward and nobody tried to make me feel comfortable. It's all about your own workout inside a class!

However, I tried this CrossFit class in our local gym, and boy was I surprised! It is all about you, together with the group! My normal strength training routine is upgraded at least three nudges, and everyone is cheering for you! It is hard not to give it your very best with all this positive encouragement! We always start with going through the correct form of a certain workout. The classes are small, so the instructor has complete sight of everyone's movements, to avoid injuries. Safety comes first in our class! Every time I come home from CrossFit class, I feel buzzed, energized and in pain all at the same time...

And yes, my instructor follows the Paleo Diet. And yes, there is a Whole Life Challenge you are asked to join, but it is not mandatory, and it is certainly not pushed upon you! My fellow CrossFitters are just as happy for me when I share my results and encourage me to move forwards in my own journey on my own terms! And I know many of my friends all over the world have the same experience as I have.

So the bottom line is, find yourself a class where safety comes first, and a group of people that make you feel comfortable and encourage you to go further than you normally would. Just give it an honest try and see for yourself if it is something for you.
