Calisthenics is my goal...but where to start?

Hi everyone!
So my personal ultimate goal is to have some bad *kitten* calisthenic strength! :) However, I'm overweight, so I don't know where to start? Do I need to focus on weight loss then start with body weight training or do both? If anyone has any experience in this let me know!

    If you want to do calisthenics, then you'd better start doing that. Get a set of resistance bands to help you when you start out, since bodyweight exercises are quite hard, especially when you have more body than would be needed... :smile:

    There are some great routines on Youtube for beginners, just pick one that seems nice and start kicking butt!

    Check out startbodyweight.com. The programme there is one of the best I've seen, with smooth progressions and a decent programme that covers most of the bases very well, imo.

    Good luck with the calisthenics, I love it and just starting back after a bit of a break over Christmas. I don't see your weight holding you back from anything, as the progressions will ensure there is always a manageable movement to start with, and that you're only using a portion of your bodyweight that is manageable. Pullups are the exception to that though, and while there are manageable pullup progressions, don't expect to be able to do full pullups while carrying much excess weight.
