Kickboxing - almost passed out? (Low vs High Carb diet)

Hello,

I decided to pick up kick boxing, and those things are known for quite serious warm up workouts. I've also started the Exante Total Solution very low carb diet (60 carbs, 700 calories a day).

During my first and second weeks of training (it's one day per week currently) I was at the verge of passing out after about 20 minutes of the exercise (was unable to join back in for at least 15 minutes). Could it be the weakness coming from adjusting to a low carb diet or could it be deeper? I haven't exercised in a while.

PS.: Since I'm taking the whole "proper exercise" thing seriously, should I bother with a low carb diet or should I go for high carb for the energy?

    Why don't you start with 60% carb and take it from there. Carbs can come from lots of places too, not just breads. Make sure your getting them from good plant sources.

    Without knowing more, I couldn't say the low carb made you pass out. Carbs are what the body uses as fuel, so if you limit them, it will be difficult to work out for an extended duration. However, it could also be hydration, total calories, and a score of other things.

    So, you're a 21 year old male, only eating 700 calories a day and wondering why you're passing out during exercise....

    The Exante diet is not made for combining it with high intensity workouts such as kick boxing, you need to do a lighter/moderate workout. No wonder you are feeling like this!

    It's too intense for you. Taper it down or ask for modification.


    Oh and eat more food. 700 calories should be 1 meal for you.

    There are people who successfully do low carb and high intensity exercise. But they eat way more than 700 calories a day. Low carb may be a problem for you, but it's more likely that the real issue is that you're not eating enough.

    Total solution 700 calories - 800 calories ( based on 45 min kickboxing session) = -100 calories! VLCD's and intense exercise are not compatible.

    700 calories likely isn’t enough to maintain your basic “staying alive” requirements. Additionally, dropping to 60 grams of carbs is going to put you close to ketosis (it would for me anyway). The transition from a carb burner to a fat burner (assuming you were eating enough fat, which at 700 calories, you’re not) takes a few weeks. Throw in some cardio and crash!

    Eat at a slight deficit, eat back your exercise calories. If you’re going to go low carb, taper down so you can continue to fuel the exercise you want to do.

    So you went from a zero start to a high intensity workout on 700 calories and you're wondering why you are lightheaded.

    Dude, maintain that approach and you gon' die, or worse still get injured.
