Every week I am determined to lose weight only to not do a thing. 10 years ago I lost 40 pounds on my own so I know it's possible. I'm tired of being tired and depressed about it.

That's good that you're tired of it. You should be. Don't try to do too much, especially at first. Find something small that you're doing that you know is not helping you to lose weight (drinking soda, junk food, etc), then pick a date to start - doesn't have to be right this moment - and set a tiny goal of making that little change for just one week. What that does is it builds confidence and self-motivation. It really works. I did that when I first started getting into fitness, and I had almost 100lbs to lose! It took me two years, but I did it. Patience is key. You also have to let it go when you slip up or make mistakes, because you will. Everyone does

When I wanted to start exercising but couldn't get my un-motivated butt up to go to the gym, a good friend gave me some wonderful advice. He told me to pick a time, every day, that I would plan to go to the gym to workout, then, during that time, put on some workout clothes (shorts, tee shirt, tennis shoes, etc) and just stay home and hang out in my workout clothes for however long I would imagine I would be working out if I was at the gym. After a couple weeks of doing that, I actually started going to the gym

Baby steps, man, baby steps. Every step, no matter how small, moves you forward. Always remember, it was the turtle who won the race
