Hello
My name is Marg and I have returned to this site on the recommendation of my dietician. I have been losing weight very slowly since June/14 and have lost 8.6 lb thus far. My goal is to make mini goals that will take me to a healthier BMI. In the past I have put a lot of stress on myself and it has resulted in feeling defeated and frustrated. As we all know that leads to regaining the weight plus some extra. I'm taking a realistic approach by eating healthy foods and increasing my physical activity over time. Right now I'm dealing with a knee injury, compounded by arthritis. Physiotherapy is helping quite a bit, and I'm please with my progress in this area. I'm 68 years old and have a great husband, 3 kids, and 5 grandchildren. My ultimate goal is to become healthier and more active to enjoy life to it's fullest. I've been retired for 3 years and up to now I haven't improved my health status much. I would welcome any support and suggestions to keep motivated and I will return support to anyone who wants it. May we all succeed with out personal goals!

I just wanted to wish you all the best in your efforts to lead a healthier lifestyle. It sounds like you have started out on the right foot... having small goals that add up to your main goal. That kind of success builds on itself and improves your confidence. It sounds like your family is a possible source of some real support too. Make sure to lean on them to help you when you feel like giving up or are struggling.

You say "My ultimate goal is to become healthier and more active..." It really helps me to remember my ultimate goal (same as yours) with the quote "Don't give up what you want most for what you want right now." That quote rattling around in my head has helped me to pass up items that do not fit into my daily calorie allowance, to get out and exercise when I'd rather sit and watch TV, and to make nutrient-rich choices of food when I'd rather eat a whole bag of cookies. :) Of course, you build treats into your daily allowance, but over time, at least for me, my desire for more nutrient-rich foods has become more and more the norm, and the temptation to eat "junk" food has greatly diminished.

So hang in there, remember your goal, take your time getting there, and enjoy the journey along the way!!
