My list varies with mood but usually before I enter the store I focus on "healthy". I prefer frozen veggies because I truly believe they keep hold of their nutrients. I buy the salad kits because it is easier and less wasteful for me. Bread is any with whole grains.Tuna for salad or sandwiches. And back up meals, really not the best but I like lean cuisine for when I don't cook.0

I buy organic and a lot of my grocery cart is fruit and veggies and healthy snacks. This week I had friends over so I got them some snacks like Pirate's Booty. I also buy frozen food for lunch but typically Amy's Organics in the low sodium.0 -

CLEARLY...I am out of the norm here! I have a husband...that has a very laborish job..and 2 younguns! I fill my pantry with what they and I want to eat! What I've found is that what "they" eat..or what I cook them..isn't always that bad! (i can't make them suffer because I'm trying to lose weight!)...BUT...the calories arent as HIGH as I thought they would be with what I buy them! I buy the box dinners..the snacks they love...stuff for homemade food (what I would figure to be high in calorie and fat) but actually isn't! It all boils down to protion size (for myself)! My list today was:
salsberry steak
freezer pops
flour
box dinners
zesty italian dressing
picante
cheese
chicken stock (I substitute this for water!)
chicken
turkey lunch meat
stewed tomatoes (full of anti-oxidants....fights cancer)
lasagna noodles
cottage cheese (no fat)
grated parmesan
shredded mozzarella
shredded cheddar (making lasagna Sunday!)
onions
garlic
parsley (they were all out!...WTF?)
basil
banannas/fruit
olive oil (all I cook in)
greek yogurt (for me)
2% mile (for my baby girl)
In other words...I don't always watch what I buy for my family as a whole...but, trust me...I've checked...it's not always as bad as it seems to be with the calories and fat in the dinners I make!
We are paycheck to paycheck kinda people...I buy what is affordable...make it tasty..and try not to make it unhealthy...and it usually isn't!0 -
nice to know about the skim milk!....I'm gonna have to give it a try!
THANKS!
