Kentucky Fried Chicken for Mother's Day! (oh no!)

My Mom has put in a request for Kentucky Fried Chicken for Mother's Day. Normally, this is unlike her (she's totally a food gourmet and is a retired Home Ec teacher). However, Mom gets what she wants this year because she's been battling cancer this past year.

Next week I'm out of town 3 days for work (at a conference at Mohegan Sun--so crazy bad food and drink choices). For mother's day I just can't blow it. I mean, if I have friend chicken and then go nuts next week it's going to set me back from my good progress (fitting in to old clothes this week--yay!)

What the heck can I eat from KFC that will not do bad things to me. I hate to eat chicken from there anyway. Typically we get Taco Bell and just potatoes from the KFC side...but this time it's chicken bucket or nothing in honor of Mom. KFC is a really bad offender in terms of factory farming (if you've ever read 'Eating Animals' you know what I mean).

Help!! KFC attack in honor of Mom....

I second the grilled chicken, it has a good amount of sodium in it but it really does taste good and the cals arent bad.I'd stay away from the sides though.

Thanks! So go for the grilled and no fried. That part I figured...

It's just the first Mom's Day celebration I'm not looking forward to food-wise.

Their grilled chicken is really good..minus the sodium of course! Good luck!
  • Maybe you could get yourself a piece of grilled chicken, and green beans. The database on here also has KFC on it so you could look at the nutrition there and make your choices. Good luck and Happy Mother's Day!

KFCs grilled chicken tastes like ****. Just get a fried breast and don't eat the skin.

They have corn on the cob and green beans. If you have to splurge a little, make up for it at another meal or work it off. Dont let one day do you in!

I get celebrating your mom and giving her what she wants. But, to eat a meal that you don't even want? It's one thing to have a "cheat" meal; atleast you enjoy it. But you don't even want it! Why not just bring a meal for yourself; could be a healthy chicken so it's not so noticeable. Just say, your tummy is upset and you need to eat light... or that you have keep your sodium down, etc.

as for sides stick to veggies and if you eat mashed potatos dont get gravy. but im with GLLove on this one that you shouldnt let a diet ruin a holiday. you can easily make it up later if youre devoted.

Go for the grilled KFC... A drumstick is only 82 calories or something... green beans is a good side only like 35 calories.. the biscuit they give you is 90 calories so stay clear, and the coleslaw is 180!! ... KFC is definatly a better choice then many other options.

Also you can go to their website and plan ahead.

Thanks all. No, you're right, I don't even want it. I'll just be polite and eat what I'm given. I can always go out in their garden and munch on radishes. :)
