When I have issues with my gallbladder broth, chicken soup, crackers and ginger ale were my best friend. Avoid dairy for now too. Salads with no oil are good.0

I had some gall bladder discomfort about 15 years ago and made dietary changes at the suggestion of my doctor, that helped. Like yours (apparently) he didn't tell me exactly what to eat or not eat however so I did some reading and experimenting and figured out what worked for me.
The changes I made that I think made the biggest difference are not really "recipes". Instead I would say they are more cooking methods to avoid.
First, and rather obvious, was I stopped eating deep fried foods. I'm not sure that was necessary because for me at least, vegetable fat from vegetable oils doesn't cause a gall bladder "attack" it turns out, but I didn't realize this when I first made dietary changes and now I am just used to eating very little deep fried food.
I found that animal fats were more likely to cause me problems, especially foods like pizza with lots of cheese and sausage or pepperoni, where the fat could not drip off during cooking. Any "casserole" type dish where there is fatty meat can cause problems too. Precooking the meat so the fat drains away helps.
Another area that I made changes was how I make soups with meats. If I use a meat that could be fatty, instead of eating the soup right away, I put the hot soup in the fridge and let it cool completely. This causes the fat to congeal on the top of the broth. I then remove the layer of fat and reheat the soup. This has really helped. I do this with the crock pot recipes I made too, and its easy since my crock pot has a ceramic liner that can be placed in the fridge. It does take extra time but its worth it!

I have had my gall bladder removed, and I have never been able to see any pattern of behaviour leading to attacks, neither before nor after surgery. (Yes, I've had many after too.) Sometimes fatty foods set them off, but more often I could and can eat large amount of fat with no ill effect. I have had attacks from green salad with too much lime juice as only dressing. I really don't know.0

Everyone has different triggers. I had my gall bladder removed a couple years ago and my triggers were alcohol and fat. But not animal fat so much as just grease. Here's what I'm making for lunch today that's low-fat and a single serving:
Tuna Pasta -
1 cup egg noodles
1/3 cups frozen peas
1 4-oz can tuna
1 slice of cheese
Cook the noodles and strain. Move noodles back into the pot and add all other ingredients (I toss in a splash of milk to help it along). I put the pot back on the burner I was using and put it on low/medium-low. Stir until cheese is melted and peas are cooked.
This has 336 calories, 5 grams of fat, and 31 grams of protein. I always struggle to get in my daily protein so I love this recipe. It makes a surprising amount of food as well. I hate feeling like I'm starving myself so this is really nice.0 -
With the recipe above, don't forget to season as you like. I use black pepper, garlic and onion powder with just a touch of salt.0

Yes, with changes to the way you cook food, you can continue the recipes you enjoy with changes. I don't suffer from gall bladder attacks so if I am way off base, team, correct me!
You can really reduce the fat content in muffins by replacing the 1/4 cup oil with 1/4 cup apple sauce. Muffins work with as little as one tablespoon oil.
You can also rinse browned hamburger meat in hot water to remove residual fat.
I love the refrigerator fat-skimming tip.1 -
I had mine out. Took one trip to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack at 32 and lots of morphine to convince me the surgery would be worth it. I hope you find some relief. For me, fat was the trigger. And while I don't have pain anymore, I have noticeable difficulty digesting fats due to the lack of the gall bladder. Any sort of greasy fast food was definitely out (still is). I ate lots of baked or poached chicken and fish. Olive oil for roasting veggies didn't really bother me. Meat, especially greasy or fatty meat and its byproducts (gravy, etc). were my triggers. You don't really need to eliminate anything - just substitute Pam for oil in your skillets, use oil sparingly everywhere else and opt for lean protein. And make sure you cook meat so that the fat is well drained. To this day, any ground hamburger I've browned, I rinse in a colander with really hot water to get the extra fat off. Good luck!!!0

My family used to go for fried chicken every Sunday after church. Last week I tried a whole chicken in the crockpot. I will never go back! Make 4 golf ball sized balls of aluminum foil and place in the bottom of the crockpot. Rinse your thawed chicken inside and out. Pat dry with paper towels. Sprinkle with the seasoning of your choice. I used a Montreal Steak, but just about anything would work. Put the lid on and cook on high for 4/5 hours. Tastes just like the rotisserie chickens you buy at the local grocery, but it has zero added fat from butter or oil. We have had chicken to eat on for salads and wraps ever since.0
