Question re: weird "knot" in my abs...

Background:
27 y/o fairly healthy 5'4'' 160lbs
- at 16 y/o, had monthly ovarian cysts that came and went with menstrual cycle
- at 18 y/o, had fibroid tumor size of football removed from abdomen (ovaries and uterine area)
- at 24 y/o, had child via c-section
(also had two other surgeries, but they aren't lower abdomen so not relevant... I don't think)

Situation:
After a couple classes that work my abs, I've had sore ab muscles. No surprise. While massaging them one night, I discovered a "knot" on my lower right ab. If you drew a line from my belly button to my hip crease, it's along that line, a couple inches up from my hip (so low right abdomen). The "knot" is not on my left side, even though those abs are sore too. The "knot" seemed to decrease in noticabiltiy (can't see it, can only feel it) when ab soreness subsided. However, I noticed it again this morning... and I'm not sore in my abs. It's not sore when I press it, only gross because it's round and hard and wobbles just a bit under my fingers... It reminds me of an Adam's Apple, maybe.

Question:
I know you guys aren't doctors or medical professionals (licensed to give medical advice online with my limited background), but what do you think????? I have an appointment with my doctor but it's booked out for a while, and I'm wanting to know now.

Can you get a "knot" in your abdominal muscles?
Could it be a swollen ovary?? Can you even feel those by deeply pressing on your lower abdominal region?
Could it be a swollen lymph node? Are there lymph nodes there, or are they lower into your groin region?
Could it be scar tissue from somewhere weird inside? I mean, it's not on one of my scar lines, but maybe from the c-section?

I'm obviously worried, and wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar, or had family or friends who did.

perhaps a hernia? unsure, but my sister had one a few years ago that she got just from lugging a backpack around campus at college...
hers was like a little bulge that she could push in and out. wasn't serious, but they did have to repair it with an out patient surgury. could be, considering you've had so many surguries where the dr.s had to cut through your muscle wall.

I had a horrible knot behind my ear that ached terribly. It hurt just to move my head. My doctor told me it was a lymph node and that you can have them anywhere in your body. She told me I was probably fighting an infection or virus, and that was why it was swollen. I didn't feel sick at that point, but sure enough about 3 days later I had one of the worst sinus infections ever! Not saying that's what it is, but it sounds similar to my experience, just in a totally different area. Good Luck! Keep us posted on what you find out.

It sounds like either a lymp node or cyst (because it is round and moves) - I doubt it is your ovary. Your ovaries are deeper inside your abdominal cavity, and I don't think a muscle would knot up in such a noticable way.

    When is your appointment?

I've had cysts on my ovaries and you can't feel them from the outside. So, I doubt that's what it is. I've known women that have had them the size of oranges and bigger and they couldn't tell from the outside.

My appointment is next Thursday, Dec 11 at 10:45a.
I'm supposed to be leaving for the beach with my entire family round 12noon.
Enough time for the doc to see me, but not enough for xray, if that is what he decided I need.

Molly and Abs... I was thinking ovaries weren't 'feelable' from the outside like that

KDZ... I'd be glad to hear it was something as simple as a virus right now. Well, a nice virus I could get rid of. However, I first noticed it over a month ago. :ohwell:

Shkaki... no idea what a hernia feels like. Maybe?

You should PM songbyrdsweet, she knows everything! lol

I'm sure this isn't what it is, but I was watching Dirty Jobs with my 15 year old, and they were tanning cow and goat hides. Did you know, they can have pimples on the inside? It was soooo gross, because before they put it to soak in the stuff, they had to squeeze these ginormous inside the skin pimples. My 15 year old had to record it so we could show everyone else in the house and gross them all out too... Here's a link to a video of that...

Thanks Pett  Have to say, it sounded really gross so I didn't look at the video!

Update: able to get an opening for tomorrow afternoon at 3:15p. I'm hoping to know what this weirdness is by tomorrow evening and be able to STOP WORRYING.

    And the doctor's ruling is.....
    SCAR TISSUE
    Phew!!
I am the happiest, most relieved girl you ever did meet.

He felt the knot from every angle-- while I was standing, sitting, lying down, squatting, doing leg raises! It's right at the end of one of my surgery incisions (my c-section scar, I think). He told me he's noted size and location, and ruled out hernia.

I've been to this doctor for almost 15 years and he's never steered me wrong. He knows when to run more tests and he knows when to abstain. He told me that unless the knot gets tender or grows, he sees no need for further testing (MRI or biopsy). I trust him fully. This is what I was hoping to hear.

I AM A HAPPY GIRL!!!
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers you guys. :flowerforyou:  :flowerforyou:

Yahoo Lauryn! It's nice to know you're getting skinny enough to feel that scar tissue now, eh? I'm glad it isn't anything serious!
