I know breast feeding burns calories but how can I log it in my daily? I don't know how many calories I'm burning and I just want to make sure that I don't underestimate or overestimate. Are there any other breast feeding moms that have had this problem? What did yall do?

  • Hey. I'm breastfeeding a nine month old. Breastfeeding burns about 20 cal/oz of milk made. I don't log this mostly because its only about 400 calories a day and I'm trying to lose as much as possible. The rule of thumb for bf mom is keep calories over 1800. Hope I was helpful.

I'm breastfeeding as well, but my son is 14 months so I don't really worry about it too much. Just make sure that you eat if you actually feel hungry because your body needs calories to make the milk. Also, make sure that you drink a lot of water. If your supply goes down then up the calories. Feeding your baby is more important than losing weight. That's why I've waited until mine turned one to start dieting.

On the diary under any meal you can search breast feeding, several listings will come up exclusively breastfeeding shows -500 when you click on it, it adds to your day giving you 500 more calories for the day.

i wouldn't worry about logging since you've got no idea how many you're burning. just eat at maintenance and the calories burned will help with losing some weight while you're breastfeeding.
